Very convenient to carry w/you
I bought the Nyrius LT12 for my husband. He travel quite often to other countries, I think it will be a great help for him.

Disappointed
The device is not a translator. It has a limited number of common frases that it will play back in the language you select. It will not take a statement or question from the owner and translate the frase into another selected language. This lack of capability was not well identified in the text where the device was offered for sale.

Very Handy!
I gave this translator to my daughter, who is planning a backpacking trip across Europe this summer. She LOVES this translator. It is a very good size, was very easy to learn how to use, and has every language that she will need for her trip. She also finds the ability to actually HEAR the translation very helpful. I know that there are products like tablets and laptops that have the features that this translator has, but my daughter does not plan to brind anything like that with her on the trip. So as a stand-alone, small, easy to use translator, this item is awesome!

Not worth 1/2 the price...
I took this on a 3-week trip to a Spanish speaking country and found it to be absolutely useless. Not only did it freeze up on occasion requiring the batteries to be removed and reset before it would turn on again... and then all settings reset as well - but it was not useful as an aid for even basic communications. Maybe you like to use preset phrases that don't apply to the actual questions or statements that you are trying to use - I don't. If you do, this may work for you. I like to have intelligent conversations and this does not aid in finding a word or phrase in real conversations. A pocket translation dictionary is far more useful.

Didn't like it but you might
It does everything it says but it is too much for me. I had to keep hitting the button for different parts and I was confused. It doesn't work fast enough and you have to go through all of those phrases to find your phrase. By then the person should of looked at you like your stupid and walked off. LOL. Just think of how many times you stop some one who needs driving directions or when you are on the move. Ummm Ummm. This item is not practical. By a Lapan or IPAD and type in your sentence in google translate and let them read it. LOL

Clear voice
The translator is very easy to use and the voice speaks in a believable human voice. I am looking forward to using it on my trip overseas.

Just buy a book.
Unless you never loose the paper that comes with it that tells you where all the phrases are, you'll be searching for a while to find the phrase you're looking for. It is nifty that it pronounces things for you, and that is probably the only advantage it has over a small travel translating book you can find at probably any airport to where you're going. I used mine for a little while once arriving in Italy, and it's a little helpful for asking questions...The problem though with asking questions is YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE ANSWERS. Kinda defeats the purpose? If you don't loose the little index piece of paper, this could come in handy. After that, it's a goose hunt. The time feature is sorta nifty, where you can select any place in the world to find out what time it is there, and set it to show that time. It does probably sit in your pocket a lot easier than a book as well. But personally, travel book is just easier.

however I find it better than a dictionary
I haven't a chance to use this device in a foreign country, however I find it better than a dictionary.

Would love a voice activated translator, but this seems good in a pinch.

was hoping for a talk to translation device and not a type in and say French device but it is helping with my French pronociation (if that is how to spell it ).
