Great for Tour Guides!
I'm a tour guide here in Las Vegas and occasionally walk groups of up to 15-30 people through Fremont Street. For those of you who haven't been here, it is similar to Mardi Gras and Carnaval, lots of music and distractions. Usually, I would have to yell over the din to tell my stories and of course yelling gets pretty tiring, so eventually, you cut you're explanations and stories shorter and shorter as the night goes on, thus doing a disservice to your clients as well as yourself (tip wise). The Aker Portable Amplifier 16W version is just what I needed. -Now I can talk normally all night long and my group can finally hear me. It gets just loud enough so you can hear me like I was yelling, but my voice comes across in more of a conversational tone. With a slight adjustment of the volume knob, I can use the amplifier inside the casinos without disrupting anyone's gambling enjoyment, which is important, since you DO NOT want to upset the Casino in ANY way. -The amplifier projects in the direction you are facing. I can also swing the projector around to my back to talk while I'm leading the group. -I wear the item using the straps as a belt as the clip does seem weak and likely to break. -The microphone is meant to drape over your ears and BEHIND your head, not over. I was concerned about a previous review about the microphone not fitting anyone's head, but have since figured out that they were morons. Trust me in saying that this is a one size fits all mic. -Issues with Feedback were nil as long as I wore it as a belt and didn't bend over to bring the mic close to the amplifier. -Came with an additional amp cord so maybe you could play music from an ipod and talk over the music (haven't tried this) -Comes with a little sack to hold all the items -Seems to hold a charge well. -Charger comes with the item, though the battery isn't readily accessible. Directions says that the battery is good up to a year with constant use. My recommendation is to go with the 16W version as it seems to be the same size as the 14W and you can always use the extra volume in certain situations. The Aker Portable Voice Amplifier is black, small and unobtrusive. The voice quality is good and does an excellent job, especially for the price. (I wouldn't use it as a voice amplifier for singers - it's not that good - lol) Hope this review helps!

GREAT Voice Amp!
This amp arrived quickly, so I've got no complaints on the shipping time. The price is also VERY reasonable for what you're getting. Believe me, I know, as I've priced these other places, & this is about average or maybe even a little cheaper than most places I've looked. I have to say, this is by far the BEST Voice Amp I've ever had! It's compact, lightweight, & LOUD! I'm a member of the 501st, & am using this Amp on my Darth Vader costume. For those who may not be in the know, the 501st is the Premiere costuming group for Star Wars villains. Actually, I use 2 of these amps on my costume, & IT IS LOUD! Did I say that this is LOUD? Ok, I think you get the picture. These amps are used in conjunction with a special voice changer, to give me the appropriate "DARK LORD OF THE SITH" voice. It sounds AWESOME, & I get TONS of compliments by screaming Fans at the Conventions I attend, after they realize I can talk! People have no trouble understanding me in the noisy & crowded halls at the typical Comic Book conventions. I should note that this amp is currently being used by a LARGE # of 501st members for different costumes, including Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, Clone Troopers, etc...So if you're in the market for a really good, compact, light weight, & LOUD voice amp, BUY WITH CONFIDENCE!

Works great!
My husband bought this for me on the second day of "the Big E" (Eastern States Exposition) in MA. It is a 17 day fair - 11 hours a day talking to people over the noise of a large crowd. I had lost my voice by the end of the second day. He found this item on Amazon.com and bought one for each of us. It shipped immediately and I had it in my hands in less than 2 days. It was ready to go right out of the box - already charged. Easy to work. Could talk in a whisper and be heard across the booth, but not so loud to interfere with other vendors. Has good volume control so you can adjust for your own needs. Had good battery life - lasted through the whole 11 hour day each day. Recharged well each night. Worked so well had other vendors ask where we got it - two of them ordered one for themselves. Went directly from there to the Fryeburg Fair in Maine for another 8 days - 12 hours a day. This unit worked great the whole time. Would recommend this to anyone who needs a little amplification so won't blow out your vocal chords.

Suitability for use by voice impaired
I purchased the Aker MR1506 to amplify my speaking voice, which has been decreasing in volume and clarity due to ALS. It works well to provide added volume (doesn't help clarity), but it is limited by feedback as the volume is increased. If I turn the volume past half way, it occasionally squeals very loudly, making it a delicate balance between adequate volume and disruptive squealing. This challenge is increased by the design of the volume knob. While the knob works very well in preventing accidental volume changes, there is no visual indication of volume setting, so you can't tell when it is at that transition point. I solved this by painting 5 lines of different colors across the volume knob so that one or two are always visible. Now I know to turn it so that the yellow line is in the lower half of its visible range. Battery life seems to depend on how much the speaker is actually working. It is rated at 6-8 hours, but I have had it last over two (relatively quiet) days. It is very light and easy to wear and the headset is comfortable. Overall, it meets my needs, but it would meet them much better with less feedback.

Easy to use and great to have on hand.
this works so well for me in my meeting that I had in front of 100 people. I was very happy that I brought this with me and I used it. They do not have a microphone so I was happy to have my own voice enhancing machine with me. Easy to use easy to carry easy to travel with.

Great for anyone dealing with k-12 kids.
I have been teaching for ober a decade now and I don't know why I never thought to look for something like this a long time ago. I just got fed up straining my voice over classrooms of children who don't listen unless someone is shouting. This way I can keep my voice calm while being heard. It gets their attention. It is small enough to clip on your pocket or waistband without falling. The battery life for me is about 2 and half days worth of class so I think thas is pretty good especially since all you have to do is recharge it. It does get feed back when you walk by things like sinks, desk, etc. This works great for substitute teachers because it doesn't get old to the kids. Going into different classes they don't know what to make of you. Works great for field trips. I think it is a must have for educators who deal with lots of kids at one time. Some of the money we waste in schools would be better spent on staff being equipped with these. It would save adult vocal cords, we would probably get less frustrated because we will be heard immediately, and most kids will respond to the louder voice so you won't have to yell. Yes, kids do get yelled at in school because lots of times they don't respond otherwise.

Reduced my stress and is saving my voice!!
I am a professional swim coach. I coach six days a week, working with kids ages 6-15. The indoor pool environment is full of ambient noise, and the kids I work with can't hear me unless I am constantly projecting my voice, which means I'm yelling for three hours a day. After ten years, two bouts of pneumonia, an a chronic sore throat and hoarse voice, I was finally convinced to purchase a voice amplifier. Holy cow...what TOOK me so long!? I've only had this unit for three days, so I can't yet speak to its longevity, but the clarity of sound, the decibel level, and the ease of use have all been excellent. I haven't had ANY feedback issues, but I do wear the speaker quite low on my hip, and I'm somewhat tall so it stays a good distance from the microphone. The kids can all hear me, even from across the pool, when I'm simply speaking in a "normal" voice. In fact, they said my voice sounded "funny" at first. I told them, "Yes...this is my NORMAL voice!! I'm not YELLING anymore!" It's already losing its hoarse quality as well. But the REAL value is my emotional and physical well-being. I am amazed to realize now just how fatigued I was getting, how exhausting it was to be YELLING all the time!! I can now see that yelling, whether I was "angry" or not, raised my blood pressure and caused physical stress. I am now SO relaxed and calm, I don't need to strain to be heard, and coaching is once again enjoyable!

Model Number Confusion
Short Version: The features keep changing, even though the model number is the same. This is a problem, and a big disappointment, as the MR2200 I received does not include the (stereo) Line In, which I use to attach my MP3 player to it :-( NOTE: The Mic input is MONO and will not properly play stereo inputs. Long Version: I'm a big fan of the AKER series of rechargeable speakers. Over the years I have purchased 4 MR2200s, 1 MR 2800, and 2 AK 38s. The best features are the volume for the small size, and the battery life (4-6 hours at full volume!). The worst aspect has been poor quality control. Note: I use these speakers exclusively to play music from my MP3 or phone using a stereo 3.5mm connector into the Line In input. On several of the models, the Line In becomes intermittent and cuts out. It seems that it simply isn't very rugged. Also, one model I bought did not play both channels right out of the box! (An easy way to test this is to play Led Zeppelin's song, Whole Lotta Love at about 3:03 into it you will definitely know if both channels are being played.) Another thing that has changed over time is the feature set. All of the previous models I purchased had at least two inputs--each takes a 3.5mm jack, but one is for a Mic and is MONO, the other is LINE IN, for things like MP3 players and is stereo. Over time AKER added slots for USB, and most recently for microSD. (I'm still waiting for Bluetooth!). Alas, the features change, but the model numbers do not. I presently have one MR2200 that has a Line In. I ordered a second one expecting to get the exact same model; that way I could splice the signal and have two speakers in my backpack for the East Bay Bike Party on my unicycle. But the new one that I received, the subject of this review, was DIFFERENT. It now came with a microSD slot -- nice feature, but not what I need, and NO LINE IN. AND NO, YOU CANNOT USE THE MIC INPUT -- YOU WILL ONLY HEAR THE SECOND CHANNEL EVER SO FAINTLY -- SEE THE LED ZEPPELIN TEST ABOVE. So, Aker, or TK Products, or whoever is responsible for marketing these products really need to get their act together.
