The Unicorn Quest

The first book me and my daughters read together. As a military dad I’ve read plenty of books to them and they have read easier books back to me. A friend recommended this book and I took some time each day while I was not underway to read a chapter with both my girls 7 and 9 years old. It helps if as a parent you get the digital version and your kids have an actual book. I enjoyed the story and we are already reading into the second book. The girls would not allow me to read a chapter that left them on a cliffhanger and we pushed through to the lighter parts of the story before bedtime.

I thought The Unicorn Quest was a really great book. Admittedly it's a bit outside my usual genre but I was able to immerse myself in the story and the magical world of Arden that Ms. Benko created. I think young readers will truly enjoy this book. I particularly enjoyed how the author would introduce a few advanced vocabulary words and help explain them through the dialogue of the characters. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

An immersive world and an engaging flow drive this debut novel by Kamilla Benko. Readers feel lucky to be along for the ride as they are whisked away to a sprawling mansion, gloomy caves, and glittering magical industrial centers. Rarely are we left anywhere but the edge of our seat. Both boys and girls aged 10 to 14 will enjoy immensely, and will look forward to a sequel.

I read it to my 8 year old, who liked it better than Harry Potter. The author does a good job with twists and world building. The characters are a little flat and the pace is slower than it needs to be. Overall, though, I think the story will be compelling to fantasy lovers 10 and under. Note: I can't speak to reading level because my daughter did not read it herself.

My daughter is in the process reading this book for school. What a fantastic book so far! We also have the book on audible. I highly recommend purchasing It on audible because the Narrator brings the book to life how she acts out the characters within the story. You can’t but this book down. There’s excitement in every chapter.

The story pulls you in already on the first page and continues to delight by Benko's engaging writing style and by all the suspenseful/exciting plot turns. The message of deep sisterly love rings clear throughout. Beautiful book and enjoyable for all ages! Can't wait for book 2!

I read this book out loud to my 8 year old daughter and my 4 year old daughter and they both loved it. Granted the 4 year old isn’t very picky but the 8 year old really is and she loved it.
