A Primary (KS1 and KS2) help for home and school
Not a bad Atlas for the British market - especially when supporting School topics: The first third of the book (pages 8 to 24) gives various maps of the UK. These maps are presumably helpful to exploring the UK topic. There are physical and political maps of the continents in the middle section and world maps and flags at the back. In addition to these, there are specific countries including Kenya and Mexico (again Junior topics) drawn to a larger scale. The maps are clear and have simple keys and assist in map-reading skills. The only badly defined map, I believe, is of the USA where the States just do not seem to have bold enough boundaries. There are some added extras including inset photos, satellite views, interesting facts and statistical charts which make the atlas accessible to young readers. This atlas would be be ticking all the boxes, my children tell me, if it had had a few historical maps e.g. World War II or Ancient Egypt, as many Primary topics these days are cross-curricular.One can't quibble with the price though, and it is worth having a copy at home to answer the children's questions.

bought for 5yr old
It is quite a good atlas, but I would have preferred more visual connections to the countries. Twins loved it
