One of the Best Weight Loss Books
I ordered this because I belong to an online 'team' who follows this book Day by Day. This uses cognitive behavior techniques to work on the emotions behind overeating. I have been through the book 3x in the past year and I will be starting up my fourth time in mid-July. It is not a quick fix book for weight loss but as you go through each day you are faced with each behavior that you have (and share with others) that you work on changing. Ms. Spangle also offers her website and will communicate to you directly if you wish to share your email address. She seems to be a hands on author who cares that her readers are able to succeed at this endeavor.

Dig deeper to better understand and help overcome barriers in one's personal weight management journey
I highly recommend this book. I've been working through it for the last 7+ months. It has quick, 2-page "chapters" focusing on one tiny aspect of the weight management journey. There's a little section at the end of each day's chapter where it asks a few questions and/or proposes a few easy introspective exercises, and encourages journaling in a separate notebook. When I first got this book a few years ago, I would just read it, but never did the actual journaling work, and only made it through the first few weeks of the chapters, and didn't stick with reading it. This go-round, I'm journaling each chapter, and somehow writing the stuff down and not just thinking about it for 10 seconds, forces me to dig deeper, (which I have needed), and it is also keeping me on task. I typically read and journal my chapter after eating breakfast on days when I don't need to rush out the door, so, not everyday. I average 2-3 chapters a week, which is why after 7+ months I'm only on Day 74, but I'm fine with that, because I am taking my time to absorb each chapter rather than skimming and not retaining.Edited to add: regarding the "journaling" aspect, sometimes, I don't have much in the way of original thought to write about the actual topic, or much in the way of responses to the questions posed in the exercises, even if the topic itself is impactful and thought-provoking. In those cases (in every case, actually), my journaling consists of just taking notes on the chapter highlights in my notebook. The actual effort of writing down the key points which speak to me helps to reinforce them in my brain a little more permanently; (I think they call that "kinetic learning", or some such). Some chapters are "Duh!", (and typically only because it's a topic that I've already worked through previously, or is not something I personally struggle with), but most are fairly thought-provoking, and some are extra "meaty", so I end up spending a few days on those - first absorbing the topic and mulling it over for a day or so, and then actually journaling on the topic the next time I can get back to it. There are probably dozens of similarly-structured weight loss books out there, so this isn't necessarily the only option. It's just one of the things I'm currently doing in my weight management efforts that works for me and seems to fit my needs, and may not be for everyone, or the right time (it wasn't the right time for me 4 years ago when I first bought it).I've been enjoying this process so much that am now trying to figure out what will be my next "after breakfast" workbook. It may be another one of Linda's books, as long as they don't go over the same ground I've already covered. Or it may be something completely different....

Over the Line, or is it Below the Line
Yesterday, for the first time in twenty-two years, maybe longer, my weight was below 200 pounds. No other book was more helpful in achieving this.I bought this book four years ago, printed out every page from the on-line version, and lost 18 pounds in 100 days. During a difficult time, I gained back about ten pounds but still felt better and never let myself gain it all back. Over the last year I haven't pushed and didn't consider myself dieting, but I was conscious of wanting to lose more. I lost the ten again and then seven more, and then a few more. Certainly near daily vigorous exercise--biking, xc skiing, and major house and yard work--has helped. But there is no doubt in my mind that ideas, techniques, and tips from this book were at the heart of my success. Having now lost over twenty-five pounds, I actually feel--and look!--younger than I did four years ago. I like Ms. Spangle's knowledgeable yet compassionate style. I love her common sense. I highly recommend this book.

100. Days of Weight Loss is a practical tool to help in weight loss and maintenance
This book is a terrific aid in sustaining weight loss. Emotional issues are what make wreight loss so difficult. If weight loss and control were easy, there would not be a huge epidemic of obesity today. The obvious formula: eat fewer calories than you use and viola! Perfect and permanent weight loss. Reality doesn't work that way. Linda Spangle helps one deal with the day to day emotional issues of weight loss and maintenance. This book is a great tool for dieters.

Reading for the 4th time!!! Have lost 50+ pounds and kept it off with the help of this book!
100 Days of Weight Loss: The Secret to Being Successful on Any Diet PlanI am currently on Day 11 for the FOURTH Time!!!! I am editing my original opinion from the 2nd time I was reading 100 Days. . . I finished reading each of the 100 daily motivational suggestions, then began again. . . ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!! I have lost 53 pounds, and have been maintaining that loss for a good while. I am 63 years old, and have gone to Weight Watchers many times,as well as tried so many different diets, but have always had to lose the same weight again and again...maintenance being a major problem. For me, this is about emotional eating and offers so many positive suggestions about how to control my emotional eating. I try not to read ahead, and to faithfully read each day's entry. I have gone through multiple highlighters, and in addition to highlighting what I find to be important to me, I've been commenting on the pages; it has become a 'journey journal' of sorts, and I have never been a diary nor journal keeper. I find it very interesting to note the fourth time around what I wrote the first, second, and third times. I date and log my weight on the different days' entries. Some days I read the day's entry several times, and I go back to read over particularly effective entries on difficult 'sticking to my diet' days. I have bought this book through Amazon for 4 people who have told me they are struggling with weight loss. Three of them have also been successful with their diet efforts while reading 100 Days. The 4th person hasn't begun reading it yet. . . Oh, and you won't want to share your copy as you may also have written notes that may be personal, too. Linda Spangle has written an excellent 'go to' book for anyone who struggles with weight loss. To say the lease, I HIGHLY recommend this book...you won't be sorry.
