Fun Parody

I am a fan of pretty much all stuff John Green. While this wasn’t his work, I enjoy a good parody. It relies a lot on sex humor which is supposed to be a lower form, but I never claimed to be highbrow so if it is done well it is good enough for me. I can’t stand scatological humor BTW (we each have our standards I suppose). Here is an excerpt:“Hazel, you’re not gonna meet any guys sitting on the couch. You aren’t a little kid anymore. You’re becoming a woman. And to be perfectly blunt, every woman periodically needs some cock.” She had a point... sort of. Every woman does periodically need some cock. But at the Support Group, there was only gonna be Cancer Cock. "That is a good line IMHO. Yes, it is a bit cheesy, but it follows the book (albeit a bit twisted – I like twisted). This would have been a four star review if the bulk of the story did this sort of job keeping with the storyline. Also, it does get a bit juvenile (which should be OK since it is a parody of a YA book), but the line between childlike and childish does get crossed for me at times. So here are some thoughts:1) If you loved the book and like parodies than you this short read will put a smile on your face.2) If you loved the book so much that you can’t stand any sort of fun being made of it, please see a gastroenterologist to have that stick removed. The only thing worse than taking nothing seriously is taking everything as if it were the word of God (including the word of God).3) If sexual situations make you uncomfortable than avoid this.4) If you expect sexual situations in writing to get you excited this will be disappointing.5) If you know the book and can enjoy some light hearted ribbing, than by all means it’s only $0.99.

A fun and quick read

As one of the (seemingly) few people who did not think The Fault in Our Stars was an epic, life-changing book, this was great. I found the original book pretentious and way overrated, so this parody was perfect for me.Lookner gets in several funny digs on vegetarians (when Hazel and Augustus are in Amsterdam at the "Oranjee" restaurant on their date, the waiter tells them: "Let me give you some honest advice. If you're going to order vegetarian, it's a bit of a waste to spend your money eating here. Or at any fine restaurant.") He also makes a few jabs at famous authors like Veronica Roth, Suzanne Collins, and JK Rowling.Hazel's parents are potheads, everyone at Group is a douche, Peter Van Houten is almost continuously attached to a beer helmet, there's lots of juvenile mentions of "bjs" and "hjs," and even a couple diarrhea jokes. It's very silly and right up my alley. I only spent $1 at Amazon for this - totally worth it!

Good use of $1 for TFIOS fans and skeptics

I liked this book because I didn't like "The Fault in Our Stars," and appreciated seeing precocious, pseudo-literary, diem carping teenagers portrayed as slightly ridiculous. But I can imagine someone who did like TFIOS also liking TFIOP, because it's faithful to the plot of the original; even though he's poking fun of John Green's book, the author of this parody clearly knows it well, maybe even appreciates it a bit. It's like, we've all got a little bit of Hazel and Gus in us (even if we don't all have cancer). You know?$1 dollar is a fair price. That's less than it costs to download a song on iTunes, even a good song like Charli XCX's "Boomcrash" from The Fault in Our Stars movie soundtrack. If you have that new Kindle unlimited program, I can think of no reason why you shouldn't download this book for $0.

How has John Green not sued this guy? (The answer is in Chapter Two.)

If you worried about teenagers being corrupted by "The Fault in Our Stars", you will be absolutely terrified about teenagers being corrupted by "The Fault in Our Pants". There's a lot more sexytimes. Like, at least twice as much (does sending Peter Van Houten a photo of yourself masturbating count as sexytimes? What about giving a hot boy a bj in the Anne Frank House? No? Okay then, exactly as much sexytimes as the original, if you don't count the three-way with the nurse.)

Laughed my ads off

Again, Steve Lookner, writes a book with non-stop laughs. I enjoy laughing and reading his books. Please keep writing more.

Not worth $$$ or your time

The story is basically the same except the Mom and daughter constantly talk about getting "cock" instead of "boyfriend". Just replacing the word "cock" doesn't make it funny. Save your $$$ and your time.

Funny Even If You Haven't Read 'The Fault in our Stars'

A lot smarter and funnier than any parody deserves to be. Lookner has created a work that stands alone, as a hilarious, touching, filthy, darkly comic work of fiction about getting sick. Read it or you'll get cancer.

the worst thing I've ever read.

This is, honestly, the worst thing I've ever read.oh yeah because jokes about child porn and the holocaust are soo funny and acceptable to make.. (its not). The writing style is poor and scrappy with the humour of a problematic frat boy. Good parodies exist, ones which are funny, but this is not one of them.

Poor in most respects

Poor in most respects. Depends on your sense of humour I guess and if you really don't like The Fault In Our Stars. It made fun of the original but not in a very inventive way.
