By far Best translation
I have Easwarans book, that Amazon displays as its first when i looked for upanishads, however i find that this book is authentic and much better, when it comes to translation (as Easwarans book only provides English text), Translations can be advantageous since it doesnt pollute readers mind with authors Bias.I am of firm opinion that religious text should never ever have commentaries, if they do (this one too follows it), i would advise people not read them, since when you read translations only, you will gradually realize things yourself that author himself may have overlooked.Vyas,Anirudh

Pages separated from cover the second I opened the book
I have not read the book yet. The 3 stars is as soon as I opened the book, the pages separated from the cover. It's an old and dried out book.I am sure the quality of Swami Sivananda's writing and research are 5 stars, but the 3 star rating is for the quality of the physical book.

Warning: Book Printed Badly and Bound Worse
I arranged a return authorization for this book within minutes of receiving it.Typical of what used to be the norm a few decades ago for books printed in India, this book, which bears a 1998 copyright, is printed on cheap, darkened paper that bleeds through and has an unmistakable moldy or otherwise "off" odor; the spine is very poorly bound with flimsy ersatz cloth-like material and is completely blank with no titling on it (the paper jacket has this requisite information); and the binding in general looks as if it might fall apart as soon as the book is read, with front and back boards that are very flimsy. However, the Devanagari (Sanskrit) font in which the actual verses are printed is quite legible, although there is no Romanized transliteration of the actual text as written. But individual words are transliterated and glossed, so that someone who wishes to work with the original text and the commentary might find this volume useful in spite of the serious production problems. My comments on the quality of this book and this publisher should not be taken to reflect on recent Indian publications in general; for example, a series of paperbacks I've recently purchased distributed by the Yoga Publications Trust are really rather gorgeously produced.

Rare gem of our ancient wisdom
One of the most clear and approachable version with all the major Upanishads. Swami Sivananda has an ability to explain the verses in a very simple, but not inaccurate way. I found the book after looking for it for several days.I bought it for 355 plus 80 delivery, which is excellent (ofcourse), but some sellers are overpricing the book upto 500.The translation is pretty clear with devanagari text. Note that this volume does not contain the Chhandogya and Brihadaranyaka upanishad. The latter may be purchased seperately.

The most accurate translation of the upanishads
I have read several other translations of the upanishads, this one is the best. Usually translations made by non practitioners of vedanta are full of wrong terms, for my little level of practice in a vedantic ashram, this one is accurate. In particular the end of the Svetasvatara upanishad is very profound and inspiring. If you know also the teachings of the fourth way from Gurdjieff, you will probably found that it is the same message. The notes are useful for word by word translation. The quality of the paper is high for the indian standards, not so high for the modern ones. But what do we ask from India: good paper or good thinking?
