specialized tool, but great to use. Update, bent the shaft! Received a replacement
I needed this to undercut the rim on a hollow form. It is expensive, but the added length of the handle improves stability. I don't expect to use it very often, but there are time when this is exactly the tool needed.Update 10/14/20 - I was using this to rough out a form on some green (wet) red oak and I had a catch. The catch was bad enough to bend the swan neck portion, as well as bend the tang relative to the handle - I actually think the wood fibers of the handle are compressed, and the tang itself is still straight.Needless to say, I've contacted Easy Wood Tools, but I haven't been impressed with their responses so far. Their initial response was for me to bend it back in a vice, and after I sent them a picture, they haven't gotten back to me after a couple days, so I'll probably need to call them to actually get anything done. I will say that I'm happy with my other Easy wood tools (rougher, finisher, detailer), so I'm hoping they come through for me, this was expensive!I'll post another update once things are resolved with Easy Wood Tools.update 10/30/20 - I had to call them since they didn't return emails, and they told me to send it in. I sent it in, and received a replacement in about a week. They said they would send me an email when they shipped it out, but I didn't receive anything in my inbox or spam, I was only notified because I have my address linked with UPS, and it showed up in their system. In the mean time, I decided to buy some Hunter Carbide tipped hollowing tools. They are much more robust in their design, and they use a cupped carbide tip, which is a much different design than the scraper style of easy wood tools. I bought their unhandled ones since I have D-Way handles already that can hold these well.I will still use this #3 Hollower since the swan neck is a bit more curved than the Hunter Swan neck, so this will allow me to do the final extreme undercuts when needed.Overall, I'm glad they replaced the tool, but I am not impressed with the level of communication from Customer Support. I'm also not sure if I'll be buying any more easy wood tools, as there are many players in this field now, and I am quite impressed with the Hunter Carbide Tools that I just received.

I absolutely love this hollower for turning fully dried ( and very hard) wood. It outperforms any HSS tool especially when turning dry wood. It has a very short learning curve and performs great when turning odd shaped pieces which have no edges to ride the bevel of a common gouge on. Like all carbide tools, they are not as sharp as HSS tools but stay sharp much longer. I absolutely recommend this type of carbide gouges to any novice because the learning curve is very low and Easy Wood Tools provides helpful instructional videos on their website.Since I went the carbide route, most of my HSS gouges stay in the drawer, and only a few HSS scrapers are still in use for some final touches .The best feature of this Hollower (its full size) this thing is huge and gives a great control. There is absolutely no need to use a dead man grip on this tool. Which is great if you turn for hours and hours like I do.

Love this. Very substantial so catches are easy to avoid. Replaceable carbide tip means you can focus on wood-turning and not tool sharpening. I turn as a hobby and have a full time job so not having to learn how to properly sharpen my tools (or buy the requisite equipment) is very important to me.

Fantastic Tools from Easy Wood Tools.
I really like the Easy Wood Tools even if pricey as well as pricey to replace cutters. But....my eyes are not so good, nor do I have the patience to sharpen lathe tools. When I turn wood, it is usually heavily spalted, or rotten even, with voids and holes and ants and such, or is totally green and I need something that is going to allow me to be most creative. While it is an art to sharpen tools, that is not my goal.
