Great camcorder
My first camcorder so I guess I’m a bit biased when I say it’s great! The Zoom function with that auto-focus won me over! It’s a good value, although I don’t think it should cost so much; maybe $100 less. It’s lightweight & very easy to use. If you’re a lefty I hope you’re ambidextrous. The manual is available online & there’s a forum you can access if you have specific questions. Good quality & functionality.

Almost like new
Our church needed a better video cam to record Sunday Services, yet we run on a shoestring budget. We bought this renewed version of the Vixia HF R800 hoping to save a few bucks. However, because of the economy we're currently in, we paid more than we wanted to, only to find that the camera came packed with the wrong AC charger, missing the USB cable, and no quick start guide. Once we got these defects taken care, we found this device to be easy to use and a great improvement to our previous device. It accepts sound from our mixer without problem, and the images are high quality.

Works well at a good price
Bought several of these to do livestreaming at our church. Works well. What sets this apart from the cheap ($100-$150) "4K" cameras is that it has a real zoom lens. Technology is 10 years old but on a budget, it works well in less than abundant light.

Great value, like new, all connectors, minimum of faff
I needed a HD camcorder quick as the Logitch webcam I was using is no longer up to the job (dynamic range, focus, and other issues). This Canon VIXIA HF R800 Camcorder gave me exactly what I needed at a great price; not that much more than a webcam, but far greater performance. Its well-packaged, with all the cables and a minimum of faff, no pointless inch-thick manuals you never use or CDs that go directly into the bin. I have a 10+ year old Canon VIXIA HF20, so know the brand and its reliability. That camcorder has been around the world many times, dropped, kicked, and through tropical rainstorms several times. And it still works! So looking forward to a similar experience, at a great price.

It's not a camera if it won't take a charge. It's a door stop.
The media could not be loaded. I bought this Canon VIXIA HF R800 Camcorder that came with the wrong power cord. It has to plug into the camera with the battery attached to charge it up. The one they sent looked like a 1/8 head phone jack, so I bought another one, as it claimed to be the power cord for this particular model. It just falls out.So far, I'm about $500 into a door stop.I've included a picture of the charger jack they sent me, next to the input. Radically different shape. Also, the camera requires a 5.5 DC input, while the charger they sent me puts out 8.5 DC.Even if I could connect it, this would cause major problems. The camera won't charge without a connection cable and the one they sent with the phone is obviously unrelated to the Canon VIXIA HF R800. I'm ordering a separate charger now, but I have little faith that this thing will work. How can I depend on a camera refurbished by people who can't tell an earbud jack from a charger jack? And the replacement cable is a different size then the 'refurbished' one. What a cruel joke this is. Don't buy refurbished things from Canon or Amazon.

Excellent Camera. Incredible zoom. Perfect for group presentations.
I bought this camera two years ago. It was a little cheaper then. I have found that it does the job of $1000+ cameras. Here is what I use it for. I am in a small local art club that meets monthly. We have speakers that demonstrate their art. Sometimes the art work is small and people in that back of the room can't see. So I use this camera as a video monitor. I put the camera on a tripod and use its 57x optical zoom to show the audience in detail what is being done. The camera has a hdmi output which I connect to either a wide-screen TV or a projection system which has hdmi input. Now, everyone in the audience has a close-up view of the demonstration. I don't use the record feature on the camera. I only use it for a live feed. And here is the tip that makes this camera as good as the $1000+ cameras. The video output can produce a clean hdmi (or live stream) signal, where none of the camera menus are visible. This option is on Display Setup Menu - Turn the Onscreen Markers off. This gives you a perfect livescreen hdmi output signal with no superimposed menus. Two different, well know camera stores told me I'd have to purchase a $1000+ camera to get this one feature. Not so. This Canon Vixia does the job.
