Great razor
Just had my first shave and I am very happy with the razor. Good solid weight, comfortable in my hand, and an excellent shave. Is this a good razor for begginers? If you have a thick or coarse beard the answer is yes. If you have a fine sparse beard this is probably too much razor for you.One feature I want to mention that I didn't see in the description of the razor is elements of the the design. The sides are open a bit and there are cutouts in the bottom plate that really facilitate rinsing. I don't know if there are any other razors with these design elements. This is a great feature. I was very impressed at the thought that had to go into this razor.I have an addition to this review. Here in the Southeast it has gotten pretty hot. When it gets hot the Switch and Save energy saving system gets busy. There is a Switch and Save on the water heater. Today when I was ready for the evening shave I discovered that the system had curtailed the water heater. Now the water wasn't cold but it wasn't a desirable hot for a shave. The Flagship Razor still did an excellent job. This is a terrific razor. I recommend it more than before. This is a great razor at a very reasonable price!

Good shave with little irritation for thick hair and sensitive skin
I bought this razor to replace one (from a different manufacturer) whose head would no longer screw onto the handle. This razor is less aggressive than my previous razor, but that was exactly what I needed. Generally speaking, less aggressive razors are considered good for people just getting started with safety razors as it is less likely to cause nicks and cuts. That said, this razor turned out perfect for my thick facial hair on sensitive skin. I've had far less skin irritation and no nicks that weren't my own fault for rushing through shaving. Since it is a less aggressive razor, the few nicks and cuts I have received have been far milder than previously, rarely needing more attention than just patting dry with a towel.I am certain that the difference is this razor since it is the only thing that changed for me as I'm still using the same shaving cream and blades. Even shaving after four or five days of growth is an easy enough task, though this razor is mild enough that shaving every day is no problem. I've used it both ways, and compared to my previous razor (where I felt the need to let my face have at least a two day break between shaves), this razor has been perfect for me.

Close shave with little effort!
At long last I have found a razor that gives me a close shave with little effort. Razor glides through my tough beard and allows me to cut my shave time in half. Beginners have not fear, this razor is a pleasure to use and will not hurt a bit, just let it do the work and your done! Much less expensive to go double edge than the 2,3,4,5 blade models that bounce on a tough beard. Well built, good weight, and easy to rinse after shaving....No need to look any further, this is a great razor!

I like it better than Merkur
I had a merkur long handle for a few years. Thought it was good, it eventually broke. Bought this based off the look and relative price. I am pleasantly surprised. The weight is perfect. Handle feels secure in my hand as opposed to a somewhat slippery merkur handle. I used the same blades as before and this razor gave me a much closer shave, just letting the weight of the razor do the work. Excellent razor.

Great gift
With the box this comes with it will make a great gift. The razor looks great and feels good in the hand. A medium aggressive razor, so go slow and pay attention. But it will give you a great shave while feeling and looking good in the hand.

Quality, performance, different.
I chose this over two merkurs. It is completely superior in my opinion. Shaves like how I thought a safety razor would. It shaved aggressively. The grip is great. Color is welcomed from me. Smooth shave. Best to know what you are doing but isn’t hard if you do. Don’t use pressure. Find the right angle. Be gentle. It will produce a close shave. Saves money in the long run. Cost less than other products. Feels like better quality than other costly products.

Great but not sturdy
Loved it the first month then dropped it on the sink once and the head of the razor broke off. Pretty bummed worked great till then.

Great Razor- But Not For Beginners
My wife got me this as a gift after I had been expressing interest in switching to an old school safety razor. I used this razor a few times with different blades that I purchased in an assortment pack, and I found it was just to aggressive for me. That is my only beef, and it could be that it is just my lack of skill, but I just couldn't get the technique down and ended up with several cuts and nicks, especially around my Adam's apple and that same general area of my neck where the skin is most sensitive. I tried light pressure and letting the weight of the razor do the work, watched some youtube vids to help me with my technique. It just was not happening. The build and quality of the materials is top notch. I love the long handle and heavy weight of the razor, Perhaps someone more skilled or with a different combination of thick facial hair and sensitive skin might be able to get better use out of it. The other reviews reflect that.My dad was able to dig up his old Gillette butterfly safety razor from the 60's which has a 1-9 adjustment for aggressiveness, and it has made a big difference for me. I shave at a level 2 and get a great shave without a single nick or cut. If you are a newb like me you may want to consider a razor that can be adjusted like that so that you can find the right setting for you, and then perhaps graduate to a fixed head when you have a better idea of what level of aggressiveness works for you.Good luck and happy shaving!
