Onyx EMAD
I have tried all of the EMAD series of heads, as well as the Remo and Aquarian counterparts. The ONYX is the best for punch, dynamics, and speed. Speaks more clearly as low volumes than the EMAD2 or Heavyweight. If you want speed & tone try it!

The right sound for any situation
The ability to have 3 dampening levels, and the ease of tuning the Onyx style heads makes this combination great for on the fly tuning. Gigging musicians will get a lot of mileage out of these heads and be ready for any room. You can get anything from super tight 0 sustain machine gun double kicks with the big ring in to room filling boomy stuff with the ring left off and the reso head tuned correctly. I'm never buying another kick head again for my own gigging set. Unless I'm assembling some sort of specialized set for recording purposes and it requires a very specific kick sound, like a calf skin on a 26" or something... It's going to be these heads. Only reason I didn't rate durability was because I've only had it a minute... But my other Onyx heads are durable as all hell, so I expect the same from this one.

Typical Evans quality
Replaced the kick drum head of my Pearl Compact Traveler with the Evans EMAD. Made the 18 inch single head kick drum come to life with morw tespnant volume and punch. Easy to tune. Essentially just took out the wrinkles and used the lowrst tone for the 18 inch drum.

Fantastic !
After a few years of using the Aquarian "super kick 2" I decided to make a change to a single ply head, I chose this onyx by evans, First of all this head has amazing Punch! Right in the chest that you can feel! It works best at low tunings and use the small ring insert, The durability is very good for a single ply head and I have just ordered my second one after almost a year of use on the first, Gigging every weekend and also practicing twice a week this head has held up very well, I do recomend the use of a kick pad which I use to get a bit more durability out of the head, I used and recomend the Aquarian double thin kick pad. I am not a light player, I play heel up and kick hard, this is a great sounding punchy head with great attack and a real sharp deep punch, highly recomended, Great Job Evans !

Best Kick Drum Head Ever
Had no idea this drum head was a bit different than others. Pretty thick coating and a self muffling system of sorts. I put it on right before a gig. Mic’s up the kick and BOOM. My kick sounded more alive than ever. Had that Bonham airy attack. Other guys in the band were saying how great it sounded. I’m a fan for life.

Amazing heads!!!
These heads are monsters. I bought 2 of them for my 22" double bass SONOR drum set and they are amazing. They have great sound and are very easy to tune to how you want them to sound. They have a bery beefy sound and alot of vibration. I haven't played them live yet only in our practice studio and the other guys think they sound great. I would highly recommend these beauties for anyone playing metal. You don't loose any volume when your hitting those fast double bass notes either. Once again i'm very happy with this product and I don't see any reason to use a other heads.
