Impressed very picky husband
My hard to impress husband was impressed. First he turned the turntable. It turned smoothly, no sound, no wobble and he said this is way better than I expected. Then he got out the ruler, rested the end of the ruler on the counter and stood it straight up and turned the turntable for about a minute watching to see if the turntable was level. It was. He started using it the next day for our daughter's heavy wedding cake. This turntable performed well beyond our expectations and continued to operate perfectly even when heavily loaded. Still no wobble, smooth and soundless turning. Even with this heavy cake the turntable stayed in one place, no walking off the edge of the counter, and that's important in a very small kitchen. Some of the reviews mentioned that the turntable was rough underneath and could even cut fingers if not handled carefully. We looked at this possible problem before starting to use it and could see what others were talking about but maybe ours was better finished because we didn't think it was that sharp and after constantly using it for three days it never presented a problem for us. We've tried the basic Wilton turntable and their Tilt-n-Turn Ultra (which was more expensive than this Ateco 613), both wobbled, weren't level, and were very noisy. If there was anything that could be improved upon I think it would be that several times we could have used a brake. I had to hold the turntable still while my husband did certain decorating. Overall, this stand is well worth the money and I would purchase it again and would definitely recommend it to anyone serious about cake decorating who wants superior performance from a top-notch product.

Flawless
I purchased this item as a sculpture decorating turntable/banding wheel, since it was cheaper than ones specific to "art" use. I use it to decorate smaller sculptures (sub 10lbs) and not pottery. For my purposes, it works flawlessly and is much higher quality than the art turntables I had a choice of.The rotation is perfectly smooth due to a cartridge bearing, there is no wobble or "play" to the work surface. The cartridge bearing is unsealed, so do not submerge the unit for washing. The directions mention this, but I figured I would as well. The upper disc is machined perfectly true, and has a shiny aluminum finish to it. The black rubber base is a welcome (and grippy) addition so it stays put while in use. The entire unit has enough weight to it that it feels quality, and works well, without being a hassle to move around. It also includes a no-slip mat which, while not useful for what I'm doing, works as advertised. The Ateco 613 was a pleasant surprise, the quality exceeded my expectations. There is a nice video review (and unboxing) of it on youtube if you're curious to actually see why I'm so enthused. If you're going to be decorating cakes (or sculptures) on a regular basis, I can definitely recommend this unit.

Love this, but make sure you know it's not designed to be beautiful!
This turn table is amazing! It will spin forever off of a small twist even when loaded down in cake. I didn't see it here, but another site had weight tested this stand up to 200 pounds, and I believe it! Don't mistake this product for an elegant display piece because it's meant to be a workhorse. When I received it the top finish wasn't perfect, but I don't understand why that would be an issue for a product like this. As a professional decorator I expected a table that was level, centered, and strong. One I could complete a large cake on without worrying about busting up the gears like I did on my last turn table. It did that beautifully. The non-slip mat is really just a circle of shelving liner on the stand, but it does work to hold the cake steady. Another thing I loved was the rubber on the bottom that keeps the stand itself from slipping on the counter top. Worth every penny, have already recommended to my decorator buddies.Update: four years later and I'm still loving this! A couple friends have also bought this for their cake shops and all give rave reviews. It's sturdy and still turns so smooth. Love, love, love!

Top is not nonslip- works beautifully.
Needed to replace my worn Wilton stand. The Wilton had a non slip pad on the top that hands down beats this slippery surface. I had to purchase additional non slip mat because I didn’t want to cut the 12in non slip circle that came with the stand. I decorate all sizes and definitely use the 12in mat so I didn’t want to trim it for my 6in cakes. Other than that, it’s sturdy, turns beautifully, easy to clean.

Great Investment!
As a professional cake decorator, I wish bakeries would supply these to coincide with the standard round cake stands, for all the sheet cakes produced within a given day. However, I purchased this for at-home use and love its overall durability. It distributes weight more evenly for sheet cakes rather than having to sub a sheet pan on top of a non-slip grip lined round cake stand (as most bakeries do). The largest cake I've used it for is a full-size sheet cake. My only concern is that it may be a bit loose. When slowly turning the stand to maneuver around a cake, it sometimes just keeps rotating, which is a little disturbing. I sometimes find myself having to put something to stop it from continuously spinning. Am I the only one with this problem?Though, it could also have come with a non-slip grip mat of some sort as my other round Ateco cake stands have. Despite my two concerns, it is easy to clean and sanitize. That's always a kicker for me with any kitchen tool or equipment! The rubber grip on the bottom works great with stability, even in the event of an earthquake (tried and true).
