How thick is the crash pad and is it firm or soft? Could this be worn with a ski boot to prevent shin bang?

The pads are a series of square foam pieces about 1/2” x 1/2”. They are soft like little marshmallows. They should provide the protect you are referring to. Unfortunately, when washed a couple of times, the little pads separate from the fabric and form clumps. I do not recommend these. I the bought the Kuangmi pads that are the best I’ve ever owed. Good luck!

Would this be good for mountain biking (MTB) to protect my shins against pedal smashes (where you slip on the pedal, and the pins whack your shins)?

I am pretty sure they will. I wear them all the time to protect my shins
