Has anyone used these to get a truck out of the mud?

Hey John, It really depends on type of mud, if its really soupy then there is no way the product would work, but when I used it in some firmer mud that was still slick it worked.

how would you clamp this item between the tire and the ground

You don't have to clamp it. You just lay it down like a piece of wood to get traction.
