Looks good on my camp chef smoke vault
haven't tested it as of yet, need another washer to make it fit perfectly as it's kinda loose but it looks good and have high hopes that it will work as advertised!

Easy to install
Used a drill and certain drill bits to install this on my weber grill. It's decent, it helps with the cooking process for sure. Just gotta remember to tighten it regularly.

Love this new River Country thermometer for my Weber Genesis ...
Love this new River Country thermometer for my Weber Genesis Limited Edition grill. First, I love Weber. I have the WSM 18.5" smoker and the Genesis Grill, both are excellent quality, and the smoker is the easiest to use that I've encountered. The only thing that bothered me about my grill is that the original Weber thermometer jumped 5-10 degrees when I simply tapped on it. So I decided to replace it with this 2" River Country version. Now as you'll see in my photo, there is a nice 4" ring that surrounds the original Weber thermometer. I simply removed the thermometer by unscrewing the wing nut on the inside of the grill, and both the thermometer and the ring slipped off. Then using my drill and a (Drillpro HSS Hex 10 Step Cone Drill Bits Set 1/4''~1/3/8'' Hole Cutter) that I bought on Amazon for $10, I drilled out the hole in the middle of the ring insert until the River Country Thermometer slipped through ALL the way down to the nut assembly so that the thermometer sat flush like the original. Then I carefully started enlarging the hole in the top of my Weber Genesis hood until it was large enough to feed the threads through without snagging. Also, there is a small oval hole above the main insert hole on the hood, don't worry about this hole. It's sealed from the inside as to not allow heat escape, and I believe it's only true purpose is alignment of the factory thermometer. There will be about an 1/8" gap between the ring and the River Country thermometer, versus the original Weber Thermometer. I think it looks fine though.TIP: I removed my grill grates and upper grate, and placed newspaper in the grill when drilling to catch any metal shavings. After the holes were proportioned to my liking I inserted, the River Country through the ring, and through the hood. Tightened it down with an adjustable wrench. Now you'll probably need an extra pair of hands when tightening because the assembly will start to rotate, but it was fairly easy to realign with some effort.I tested this against my electronic thermometer setup at 250, 325, 350 & 400 degrees and found it to be within 1 degree difference. I know this River Country thermometer is adjustable, but I don't think taking it all apart for 1 degree is worth my time. I've included some photos for reference. Also, I've done the same thing on my WSM 18.5" smoker with the same results, only I put the 3" version on my smoker. Very easy to read from across the deck or peer outside our dining room window.Happy grilling and smoking!

Don't grill without it!
I've got 2 Weber charcoal grills - a large one, and a smaller "Smokey Joe" grill. Neither of them have a thermometer, so I decided to buy one of these thermometers for the larger grill. It's very accurate, and it definitely pulls the temperature from the probe, not from the metal surface of the grill lid. I tested this by gripping the probe tightly in my hand, which caused the needle to move to just below 100 degrees. However, when I gripped the meter housing in the same way, it did not move at all. I am highly confident that the temperature displayed on the thermometer is the temperature of the air inside the grill.Installation is a breeze: Drill a 3/8" hole in whatever surface you want to mount this to, put the probe through the hole, and tighten the nut and washer down with a wrench or pliers. The face appears to be some sort of plastic, probably to help keep it from fogging up. When I used my grill in the rain, it did get a little condensation inside, but not enough to obstruct the view.I will definitely be buying a second one of these for my smaller grill.Update, 5/4/2010:I ended up buying a second one of these thermometers for my other grill. It works exactly like the first one, which I am very happy about. I mentioned before that I thought the face seemed like some sort of plastic, but now i am pretty sure it is glass, although I'll never know for sure unless I break one apart. Any ways, the reason for the update in the review is that the second one I bought is slightly different than the first one, in a good way! Mechanically and structurally, they are identical, however the printing on the gauge face was different on the new one. The first gauge was the same as the photo shown here on the product page, marked as "Smoke" from 100-225, "Barbecue" from 225-375, and everything after 375 is just empty white space. After using it several times, I kept thinking "I wish it said "Grill" for the temperatures above 375. Well, on the second thermometer I received, it actually DOES say grill in the 375-550 section. It's not that big of a deal, but I just thought I would post an update of my review to reflect the differences in the 2 thermometers that I bought from the same product page.

Properly calibrated UPDATE No. 2
This replaces a junk factory thermal gauge on a charcoal smoker that read 35 degrees low and had no means of adjustment. This gauge read exactly as is should during a boiling water calibration check and installed with no issue. It has an adjustment to correct any minor calibration drift that may occur in the future.Update: This "Hermetically Sealed" unit is so fogged up after a little rain that is nearly unreadable, can only estimate temperature based on color divisions.Update 2: River Country Customer Service was very responsive and is sending a replacement. Excellent customer service, refreshing. Back to 5 stars.
