The real review
I am a UPS driver and need the best bluetooth technology available. I have tried 5 other bluetooth models over the last 2 years, most recent being the Jawbone ICON, and my search has culminated to this new piece here, the ERA. The problem with the icon was its subpar volume when playing media, since I stream pandora from my cell phone for many hours a day. The new ERA is substantially louder and of much better quality. I cant put it on its loudest level because its too much, and I never thought I would have this much welcomed problem.I know the phone touts all this tap tap shake shake stuff, which is neat, but I just use it the regular old fashioned way.As for call quality, its outstanding. The phone is light and fits snug and comfortably with the jabra ear gel inserts I bought for the ICON but also fit perfect on the ERA. I do not like any of the custom earpieces it comes with. The reason I wrote the review is because of the conditions I put this thing through. I drive the UPS truck, with an obnoxiously loud diesel engine roaring under my nose, and both doors are open so you can imagine the wind noise, and the ERA handles it like a champ. Its loud and clear on my end, and everyone I call says its sounds good on their end. Its a grand slam!!

Dissapointed
I am really disappointed. in Jawbone.I was a Plantronics user but they switched their pro stuff around and it became garbage after 6 ear pieces died in a 8 weeks i had to switch to another brand.I really combed though the data, call quality, build, comfort and so on. I bought the Jawbone ERA even though it was discontinued because people said Jawbone had the best nose rejection and call quality (rated above plantronics ironically) and the ERA was discontinued for an updated version with some added features which seemed to be a step backwards so i bought this one even though it was discontinued because everyone said it was the best one Jawbone ever made.It was a big disappointment, i have people tell me all the time they can not understand me, it is unconfterble and it does not work properly with my phone (moto x)The call quality is crap, i used my plantronics in my truck all the time even tried it once in a convertible and people said they can still hear me clearly. With this unit if i am not in my office it cuts out and i have to repeat my self. The design is crap, that little loop is a nifty idea, but it hurts my ear, so i removed that ear piece and put on the ear hook, well good luck because that ear clip pops off all the time, so every time i put it in my pocket i have to search for the ear hook, put it back together, then put it on my ear, even it it added a half an oz to the unit i would rather it have a more permanent ear loop you could install and not loose all the time. The Bluetooth is crap. Some headsets are better with pairing to phones, i had some old units that would not pair or would forget their pair and you would have to re sync them, i would think that was all behind us as bluetooth is not a experiment any more but NO, the Jawbone will half the time not pick up the call, or worse yet the phone will send the call to the earpiece but the earpiece will not activate, so i turn the ear piece off and the earpiece hangs up your call. The only way to use the ear piece is to turn it off, then when the phone rings turn it on, and answer the call though the phone (if you answer though the earpiece sometimes it hangs up as well or sometimes wont link up. Then when the call is over DO NOT HANG UP VIA THE PHONE make sure the earpiece ends the call or it will go in to bluetooth limbo again. Make sure you turn off the bluetooth and wait for your next call. This is crap, it defeats the whole purpose to a headset being hands free i spend more time than ever messing with my phone.I really really hate Plantronics disposable voyager headsets but for at least a week at a time they work correctly, where the Jawbone never quite works ever.

Outstanding Headset
I've owned half-dozen Bluetooth headsets and many wired too. I wear them all day, every day, in a noisy auto repair environment. I use them and abuse them.I have always paid premium for good units as I cannot afford to mess with poor reception, and I need my hands free.Three mainstream units were flat-out unacceptable, and I'll refrain from naming them here, but to say M and J met violent ends.My three favorites so far:The original Jawbone was very good, durable and effective, with the primary hindrance those fragile ear loops. Lasted me three years of rough and neglectful use.Voyager Pro was almost as good, but dropped the ball in background noise suppression compared to Jawbone. I often had to run for quieter cover, always had to roll up car windows too, and the boom loosened up about 1.5 years in, and that finally brought its demise.Jawbone ERA has them all beat.I never thought a hoopless design would actually be secure, but it is, it is very secure. You have to find the right size, of course, and the wrong size is uncomfortable after a few hours. Also, it really helped me when I read the insertion instructions carefully, followed them to the tee and positioned the unit per recommendations. The Good:It is the most secure and comfortable unit for me yet.The light is not on the outside, so you're not a walking turn signal, woo hoo!The charge lasts a long time, and it recharges in-full in 15-20 minutes.I never run for cover with loud background noises, only when air hammers and impact guns are going off.The Bad:OK, none really bad, just notable negatives:The tap-tap feature is a nuisance, gotta smack it sometimes, but it is not necessary as you can achieve the same commands through the button up top.Miss the "ignore" button of units past. That's it, only time will tell the rest. Six months in though, I'm pretty darned happy, and can say this is the best I've owned yet.
