StetsonReward Shantung Straw Hat (X-Large, Natural)

Just got the Stetson Reward hat and I am very pleased with my purchase. For under 35.00 (January 2015) it is an appropriate first hat for those thinking about buying a Panama hat. So first and foremost, this is not a Panama hat. This is a Shantung hat which is different.The fit of the hat is good, but just a tad bit large. I am a 7 1/4 hat size and knowing that Stetson hats run a bit large, I got the medium. It fits very well, but I could have probably gotten away with a large which would have been a bit loose. The look of the hat is exactly as pictured and looks pretty smart in casual clothes. My intent with this hat purchase is to see if I like the style and look of it and then purchase a much higher cost Brent Black made Panama hat in time for the summer.So in summary, if you are looking for a super high quality hat, this is not what you are looking for. If you are looking for an inexpensive, good looking hat for daily wear or to see if you want to get into the Panama hat scene, this is a great purchase.

It should have come in a hat box, but since it wasn't damaged that's a minor complaint. Fortunately my hat, at least, came in a box and some bubble wrap unlike some others that received their hats crushed.It looks just as pictured. With a tea kettle I steamed it so it has a pinched crown and snap brim. It is now identical to the antique 1950's Stetson Whippet hat I own save for it being straw. Mine is a small which fits size 7.In case anyone is unclear about steaming the hat... The steam makes the straw (or felt) malleable for as long as it is damp and you can shape the crown and brim to your liking. Just hold the section of hat you want to shape to the steam. When it becomes malleable shape it. Once you have it the way you like, let it cool and it will stiffen back up and retain your modifications. This can be done repeatedly until it's just the way you want.

This hat was terrible. It was miss shaped and oversized. This was a wannabe Stetson.

I've been looking for a decently made Cuban style fedora for a while. I tried several others through amazon, which are simply shapeless garbage and were returned.Although the Stetson is not perfect, it is much closer and better quality to what I'm looking for. It is still a little on the soft side and does not have any lining inside, but the brim snaps down in the front and stays in place. It's just wide enough to give some sun protection without being intrusive. Absolutely only giving it four stars because the Hat I received was extremely dusty, like it had been sitting on a shelf exposed for years, forgotten about. Took me a solid 10 minutes with an air gun and a brush to get it clean again

Ordered for my granddad by request. He was delighted to receive the hat. He tried it on and eventually decided he wanted a different hat band that was thicker than the one that came on the hat. I found some to his liking and ordered those. Now he is totally happy with the options of band to change up the look of this straw hat.

If this is a Stetson then I'm the Pope. I own other Stetsons and the quality is definitely more durable. This is best movie prop quality though it does look nice just don't be too rough with it. Look elsewhere.

What a great hat. I wish the price was a bit better but it is an awesome hat and fits me like it was custom made for me. I'm a size 7 and 1/8. It's lightweight. And it's somewhat soft it's not a hard straw like a cowboy hat. It's a softer straw like it's supposed to be. I can't say enough about this hat it's really nice. And they did a really good job on the rolled edge on the brim.PS. It was packed nicely in a box.

I owned another straw hat for quite some time before purchasing this one. My older one was made from much thicker and heavier straw material. The Stetson Reward Shantung Straw hat upon arrival looked exactly like the picture, but the straw material was very thin and flimsy. The fit was fine but the slightest breeze blew the hat completely off my head and it blew around like confetti. I immediately put it in my car so I would not loose it. This occurred on what I would call a breezy day, not a particularly windy day. I would never even consider wearing this had at the beach or lake or on the water in a boat. I have requested a return and took it to the US Post Office. They charged $9.32 to return it, so I was not happy about the return policy. I am going to order another wide brim had from this same company in hopes that I can choose a heavier material that will not blow away.
