NIKWAX COTTON PROOF Wash-in Waterproofing for Cotton Fabric, Polycotton & Canvas Clothing, Tents and Equipment. Adds Water Repellency & Revives Breathability (300ml) : desertcart.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors Review: Good product - Did the job on a large canvas trailer tent. Easy to apply, we used a car wash sponge for the sides and a sponge mop for the roof to apply it. The product went a long way. Review: Great product but needed 5x the recommened amount to waterproof my coat - I used this to protect a 3/4 length cotton coat. With my first attempt, following the machine wash instructions, the process failed to waterproof the item. With my second attempt I pre-soaked the coat in a mix of water and the 3 times the recommend amount of product, and then machine washed the coat with another 2 cap fulls of the product. The second attempt was successful and my cotton coat is now waterproof. I would like to give 5 stars, as being able to waterproof something at this price is amazing, but I have to drop 1 star for this problem with the instructions that I encountered.

Great job on canvas tents
Easy to use, waterproofed two large old canvas tents effectively with half left in bottle yet! Diluted and sprayed with vacuum pump. Good value, there hasn't been much rain to test true effectiveness this summer but happy with results so far. Plenty left for further applications.

Still the best
Most recent use was my heavy old army coat. I got it soaking wet then sprayed this onto it ang hung it by a radiator to dry over night. I've included a video showing how the ancient old heavy canvas coat shrugs off the water. Now out in the rain the top layer of the coat is going to soak up a little rain BUT it doesn't get through and the coat still breathes perfectly well. Also use this stuff on waterproof coats and tents that need a recoating. I've waterproofed a thick cotton bucket hat and Craghopper Kiwi trousers, all good. The trousers don't last as long because the material is very thin, moves a hell of a lot and brushes against everything. Works great on canvas trainers like Converse Allstars, confused my wife and daughter when we got caught in a downpour. Use it on all sorts of footwear and is really good for older boots (leather included) that leak slightly around the lace holes. If you're going to use on something like gaiters then you need to be really generous with it, you'll need to refresh it more often there too. I don't like plastic coats, I hate GoreTex stuff, the environmental impact of it is not justifiable for me and plastic coats are so so sweaty when soaked, yes even GoreTex. Very noisy too. You do need to recoat jackets and I prefer doing it by hand, find the washing machine method to be hit and miss. This has so so many uses. Once you've got it you'll find loads of uses for it.

As described
Easy to use on a canvas jacket no visible marks - it's been v dry so not able to assess its shower resistance

Very good, as long as you are not expecting long rain showers.
If you are looking for something that will make cotton waterproof to a gortex level, this is not for you. But if you want something that will help shed light rain, or short bursts (and beer) this is the stuff. I use this on my fjallraven greenland jacket, and it works brilliantly as a summer jacket, if there is a risk of a shower (amd much easier than applying wax) Also treated a craghoppers polycotton work/overshirt and also great shower protection. Easy to apply in the washing machine, but don't forget to prewash with the proper gear wash from nikwax, for better results. Would recommend, if you use it as an 'I wasn't expecting rain today, but i'll be ok' kind of way.

Works ok
Although it works ok. It does not lift dirt and says not to wash item first. I had to then spot wash the dirty parts of the coat. Another item I pre-washed dried and then washed with this stuff and it worked well.

Waterproofs basic material clothing.
I use this to waterproof some outdoor clothes which aren't technically waterproof.
