Timex Group B.V. is one of the best-known American watch companies. Timex's U.S. headquarters are located in Middlebury Connecticut and it has substantial operations in China, the Philippines and India and full scale sales companies in Canada, the UK, France and Mexico. The company began in 1854 as Waterbury Clock in Connecticut's Naugatuck Valley, known during the nineteenth century as the "Switzerland of America." Sister company Waterbury Watch manufactured the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch in 1880. During World War I, Waterbury began making wristwatches, which had only just become popular, and in 1933 it made history by creating the first Mickey Mouse clock under license from Walt Disney, with Mickey's hands pointing the time.During World War II, Waterbury renamed itself U.S. Time Company. In 1950 the company introduced a wristwatch called the Timex. Over the next three decades, Timex was sold through a series of advertisements which emphasized its durability by putting the watch through "torture tests," such as falling over the Grand Coulee Dam or being strapped to the propeller of an outboard motor, with the slogan "It takes a licking and keeps on ticking." With the help of former Olympic broadcaster, spokesman John Cameron Swayze, sales took off. The company later became Timex Corporation, then Timex Group and, to date, has sold over one billion watches. The company has remained very competitive and the Timex brand continues its dominance through present day. Its primary market remains the United States and Canada, although the Timex brand is sold worldwide due to its ability to capitalize on its strong brand image and reputation for quality. One of the most successful and important features available on many Timex watches is the Indiglo backlight system. Indiglo is a brand name of Indiglo Corporation, solely owned by Timex for licensing purposes. Timex electroluminescent lamps, branded Indiglo, were introduced in 1992 in the Ironman watch line. They were an immediate success. The Indiglo lamp uniformly lights the surface of the Timex’s watch dials in a manner that makes the dial read very easily in many different light settings. In some newer watches the Indiglo backlight only lights up the numbers, rather than the entire LCD display, which is achieved by means of a specialized film that inverts the LCD transmissivity.Today, Timex Group products are manufactured in the Far East and in Switzerland often based on technology that continues to be developed in the United States and in Germany. With a large and varied line of watches, Timex has the style for everyone. From the locker room to the board room, there is a great Timex style time-piece for you. See more

Works like a charm...great to know your pulse while working out!
I bought this to upgrade an older unit by another brand. I noted some spotty reviews but also understood perfection is well above this price point. I was surprised to see how comprehensive the collected stats were. You have steps, calculated distance, duration, and intensity of the workout measured in average heart rate. This was exactly what I needed. Instruction sheet was a little sketchy but if you take your time, you can figure it out. In addition it tells date day and time as well. It also stores sessions. Reading your heart rate is sometimes harder than normal. It doesn't take a reading if your finger is too dry or wet. If you stop there, then the device fails. However, basic science students should recall that your skin resists the flow of electric current. Overly dry or wet skin impairs a reading, which is why the HRM doesn't always work! To correct those problems, wipe your finger or slightly moisten your finger tip and it works like a charm! The HRMs are quite accurate. I once compared it directly to the expensive monitor at the hospital and it was spot on. This watch will keep time, allow you to monitor your heart beat, measure progress toward goal of steps, distance, and intensity of workouts. As a heart patient, I closely rely upon this device to keep me aware of my heart rate while walking or working. I didn't want to be encumbered by wearing a chest band or anything like that. Give this device some patience and understanding and it will reward you many times over. It seems to be adequately constructed and the rubber wrist band seems durable enough. I will have to wait and see if battery replacement is easy. I give it 5 stars if it is easy. Overall, a good value and a marked improvement over the older unit it replaced.

Not a bad deal for the price but I would look for some other.
I have had three Timex watches with heart rate monitors. This one was adequate but difficult to use and set and the controls were far from intuitive. Not a bad deal for the price but I would look for some other if I was going to buy again.

Arrived barely working, died quickly.
This watch was difficult to set up because the buttons were very unresponsive to inputs, and it didn't come with directions for setting the time. Within about two weeks of its arrival, the battery died. After replacing the battery, the Mode button stopped working, rendering the watch a heart rate monitor only. The watch seems poorly made, and it certainly isn't worth the money asked for it.

Timex Health Touch Plus HRM watch
I wanted a watch that was a Heart Rate Monitor (HRM) in and out of the pool as well as a stopwatch for my swimming and running workouts. It also had to be waterproof and if it could estimate the distance I traveled while running and swimming, then that would be a bonus. My budget was $50.I read numerous reviews of HRMs, swimming and running watches. I also asked a number of friends who use running watches and HRMs for their advice. I bought this watch and I am satisfied, maybe even thrilled with my purchase especially within my budget thanks to Amazon. To measure my heart rate, I wear the watch on my left wrist and I set my right index finger on the silver ring on the watch for about 5-10 seconds. The HRM works about 90% of the time on the first touch. The HRM works in the pool, but only if my chest and both arms and the watch are out of the water, so standing at the shallow end it worked reproducibly. When I swam on my back and had the watch out of the water the HRM did not work at all. The watch recorded my swim with the step counter, but I presume it counted strokes instead of steps. The watch worked well during my run also. It had good early HRM readings and it recorded my steps. It had issues detecting me touching it when my hands were really cold and had poor circulation. Then I warmed them up and I was able to get a good HRM reading right at the end of my run.I have found that in most regular life situations the watch and the HRM work well. However I have found a few times when the HRM in the watch did not work: It did not work when I had soap or lotion on my hands. The HRM did not work when I was submerged in water and it did not work when my hands had poor circulation from running without gloves. Overall the watch and the HRM work well and the watch is easy to read day or night. My only complaint is that this watch will beep if the metal ring on the face touches skin for more than 15-20 seconds even with “beep off” mode which prevents me from wearing it in bed while I sleep.I recommend this watch to anyone who wants to keep track of their swimming and/or running workouts. This watch would also suit someone who just wants an HRM on their arm all the time.

Not great for swimmers
I read reviews that this was a great option for lap swimmers. While it is definitely water resistant, the heart rate function never worked right for me in the pool and over the course of a few months stopped working dependably at the gym. Still dreaming of a Google Watch or iWatch that will work in the pool.

Almost works perfectly
I bought this watch for my husband who needs to check his HR multiple times a day due to a heart condition. It is nice that this watch does not require a chest band and can be used as a watch/HR monitor all in one. The only issues is that sometimes it will not read the HR, so you have to try multiple times. Also, when my husband sleeps with it on, it will make beeping sounds in the middle of the night because the senor has been touched, which is the silver ring around the face of the watch. Overall, good purchase for the price.

Sometimes it doesn't read my heartrate
So far it does a fair job. But when I its to wet from sweat, it stops measuring my heartrate. I have to rinse it with water, and dry it well, and then it starts working again.
