Great for Olympic recurve archery equipment, in addition to rifles.
I had to fly out for a multi-day business trip, then return the day before an archery tournament. How was I going to practice and maintain my fitness level? I made arrangements with a couple of indoor archery ranges at my destination, and bought this case. The biggest challenge with transporting archery equipment is not the riser (25 inches) nor the limbs (long, each about 26 1/2 inch arc length) nor the arrows (about 28 inches); it's the long stabilizer. My stabilizer is 36 inches long. This SKB case is much less expensive than dedicated recurve archery cases and it's a multi-purpose case for me. My precision air rifle and my smallbore rifle, et. al., can fit in it as well. It's long enough to contain and protect the stabilizer and all my equipment other than the quiver and the bow stand. I just had to remove the sight block and sight extension bar which is always good practice for transport. I had compared the width/thickness of my archery equipment with my rifles and they're similar.Because this case is designed to handle rifles without having to cut any foam, I did not have to cut any foam for my archery equipment, either. The foam is designed to provide proper compression to provide better protection and less shifting. Cutting foam would have eliminated the multi-purpose value of this case. The foam layers consist of more rigid foam outer layers and egg crate foam inner layers. The rigid foam layer is contoured such that one side of the case has more clearance (for rifle stock and bolt mechanism) and another side is tighter for the barrel. The wider pieces such as limbs and riser stayed at the more spacious side.As a precaution, I taped the more fragile parts attached to the riser such as the arrow rest and the plunger button in case the riser shifted. The total external dimensions are about 62 inches, compliant with many airlines' definitions of non-oversize baggage so I did not have to pay any oversize baggage charges. It's a well built case the provides a more-than-adequate level of protection. There are 4 metal-reinforced padlock holes and thick plastic reinforcements at various locations. The carry handle is hefty.SKB also provides a lifetime warranty for the case. ". . . if your case breaks, SKB will supply replacement parts, repair the case, or replace your case for as long as you own it."

SEPARATE THE RIFLE (EDITED - WORKS WELL!)
I'm writing this "pre-review" because I've yet to receive my ordered SKB Single. After reading many of the Reviews, measuring my .338 Browning w/scope - AND - wanting to carry both my rifle and Glock 20 in this case, something struck me as so simple I wonder why the many Reviewers haven't made mention of it. Even if your rifle is too long for this evidently great case, why not just remove the rifle from the stock ?! The receiver/barrel assembly and the stock will most likely fit side-by-side, leaving a good amount of space on the "other" end of the case for ammo (my Glock), tools, whatever. Of course one would have to reassemble the long gun, but unless I'll be needing it immediately (like perhaps in big bear country), it takes me maybe 5 minutes to reassemble it. Should anyone think of any good reason this won't work, please advise - mostly because I'm going to do the aforementioned on a Kodiak hunt soon. Hopefully I can upgrade the 4 STARS to 5 upon return from my hunt.EDITING AND REVISING THIS REVIEW/EVALUATION FROM 4 TO 5 STARS following my Kodiak hunting trip. After, as suggested above, I disassembled my Browning .338 WINMAG, placed the barrel/receiver/stock with bolt assembly in an old sock & 2 magazines in the SKBi Single, THEN placed my full size Glock 20 and 2 clips in the case and closed it without exerting unnecessary force. Obviously it was tight, but not to the point of forcing it. The case closed tightly and nothing moved, either to or from Kodiak. NOTE: naturally some strategic placement of the numerous parts was necessary because of the foam indentations (which are great), but all adjustments were easily managed. Of note, I had some complimentary comments on the case and contents when I had to open the case in Eugene, OR, and Kodiak to include the TSA certificate. For a single rifle (and perhaps a handgun) case, it more than did the job. The case itself, though obviously scuffed a little by the gorilla baggage handlers, suffered no dents or closure damage. I apologize for the diatribe, but I can recommend nothing better for a single gun case. Should anyone have any questions regarding this Review of case, don't hesitate to emailme. - Jeff

So impressed with the quality!
Bought this off of the reviews but blown away when you actually see it in person!! The latches are spring loaded and the lid holds open and the rubber closure seal is awesome! It’s just an insanely well built case for the money! USA made too!

Five Stars
Quality is excellent to say the least and made in the USA. Worth the money to protect your investment. Additionally, when you open the case, you notice that the latches are heavy duty. There is a "tab" located under the latch which when you pull that in releases the latch itself. It seems so much better than the latches that Plano or Flambeau have on them. Also, I noticed that one end of egg crate type foam is more elevated than the other end. After laying my Savage model 11 trophy hunter with a Nikon 3-9-40 scope the barrel was at the end where the foam is elevated or higher which makes perfect sense. In effect if I have it right, that would pinch the barrel in the foam. At about the 1/2 point the foam isn't as high up which again makes sense as the stock, scope, and forearm would need more space. Very nice in my opinion. The only potential downside I can see is that there isn't much room for example at the top and bottom of the recoil pad. My set up fits but there isn't a lot of up and down or width. I would go on the SKB website if needed and check the internal dimensions to make sure your rifle, shotgun or whatever will fit.

Best, non-aluminum case available - bar none...
Thick & strong outside plastic makes a very protective shell and the high quality foam inside holds the rifle very securely. The hinges are strong and the latches secure. It is a little pricey relative to some of the other lesser quality cases on the market, but the price is fair and well worth it given the quality of the SKB case. The bottom line is my equipment is worth the extra protection.

Qualité/Prix 10/10
Excellente valise, pas trop lourde. L'arme est parfaitement maintenue grâce à une mousse surélevée côté canon. Excellente surprise et made in USA!

Well worth the expense
This case was purchased because of my previous experience with SKB guitar cases. They are built to the highest quality standards to give max protection of whatever you carry inside them. Yes they are more expensive, but you DO get what you pay for. Made from military grade polypropylene, this case could probably be thrown from the back of a fast moving vehicle and keep your rifle perfectly intact. It is SOLID. The fit is excellent and with a waterproof gasket even a flood won't harm the contents. I have a $35 case for another cheaper rifle and there is simply no comparison at all. the cheap case is just that, cheap and flimsy. There are four places to put locks on, as well as a really hefty handle. Look at it this way...do you really want to keep your $1000 rifle in a $35 case or do you want to keep it SAFE and PROTECTED?I will not buy any other case after receiving this one today, it puts everything else out there to shame for the price.
