Entry Level Macbook Pro is a Great Machine
I really like this computer, more than I thought I would. It's just the right balance of battery life, power, and portability for me. And, I realize I'm in the minority, but I love the keyboard. I had the last version of the 13" Pro as a work laptop, with the last generation of butterfly keys, and hated it. These are only slightly different, but I actually love them. They feel good under my fingers. Understand, though: I only need a laptop for relatively light work. I built a desktop rig for video editing, gaming, design, etc. I mostly use my laptops for writing and editing, with some light photoshop/InDesign work thrown in. And I use the usual cloud services for most of my storage, so I don't need a large hard drive. Battery life is really my biggest criteria, and all of the benchmarks I read suggested the 1.4 Ghz Pro had the longest life of the entire Macbook lineup (the tests I saw had the 1.4 getting over 10, with the 2.4 models closer to 8). So far it hasn't disappointed. I've put in a few 4-5 hours sessions without the charger, and it hasn't dipped below 50%. So while I haven't run the battery all the way down, I'm about in line with what the reviews said. Speed of the 1.4 Ghz is fine, again, as long as you're not throwing anything heavy at it. My basic thought process was it's only got 8gigs of ram, so I'm not going to be asking too much of it anyway. Why sacrifice a couple of hours of battery life for a slightly beefier CPU? And, again, in the benchmark tests I found, the difference between the two was marginal. I haven't throw anything heavier than some photo touchups, a ton of open browser tabs, and a few giant Word docs, but it hasn't stuttered, lagged, or shown any signs of strain. Video playback is great, and I the screen is beautiful. It's not the perfect machine for everybody, but it's perfect for me, and that's all I'm particularly concerned with :)

This is an awesome computer for my needs - a Masters student in an online program
I am writing this review based off of my usage of this laptop, and also wanted to wait a few months of using it before I reviewed. This laptop is amazing and I'm still thrilled with the purchase. It remains extremely fast, extremely easy to use, and the battery life has held up very well. I use this computer at work (I'm a firefighter in a large city) for my online Masters program coursework, and also use for personal projects and just general usage. It supplements my 2012 iMac quite well and I find myself using this laptop more and more often over the iMac. I don' think I have had a single issue with this computer. Very easy setup, the Touch Bar/menu bar is pretty neat with autocomplete and suggestions. I also love the TouchID for passwords and signing in. There is good space and if you have an iCloud and a lot of documents or multimedia you will have no issues with space on this computer. I couldn't be happier and likely next time will buy a larger screen laptop to replace my iMac when it becomes obsolete. Speakers are loud. Only negative is that I can't stand that OFFICE 365 is not part of this package. I don't know anybody that likes using the Apple alternatives like "numbers" for work. Overall though this is an amazing buy.

Surprisingly Impressive
Note: This review is regarding the i5 1.4Ghz, 8GB RAM, 128GB Storage (aka the base model) 2019 Macbook Pro 13 inch. Background: I've been a Macbook user since 2013. My first was a 2013 15in Macbook Pro, which lasted me till 2018 when I decided to hand it to a family member and thus upgraded myself to a 2018 Macbook Pro 15 inch. I still use that Macbook today, but the overheating problems along with the fact that it barely fits into my favorite backpack got me wanting a smaller laptop that runs macOS. When I saw this 2019 13 inch MBP available on Amazon Warehouse with an additional 20% off, I decided to pull the trigger given Amazon's easy return policy. ================================================================ Physically, this laptop is every bit as premium as the $2k+ that I paid for my 15-inch MBP. I especially dig the Space Gray finish. It is much lighter than my 15-inch and sort of encourages me to take it on the go when I get the chance. The ports are pretty slim, with only 2 thunderbolt 3 ports on the left of the laptop and one 3.5mm audio jack on the right, which means that carrying a dongle with this computer is a must! I have a 5-in-1 adapter from Anker, but any usb-c adapter from a reputable brand should work just fine. The performance is what really surprised me on this laptop. Having a mere i5 4-core CPU with a base clock of 1.4 GHz, I was initially pretty worried if it would be able to perform the tasks I usually do (using Logic for real-time audio processing, Adobe Lightroom and Premiere). Turns out it actually can handle them pretty well! The CPU can maintain a pretty healthy boost clock of above 3.6 GHz for pretty much as long as I need it to, and the temperature of the CPU hovers just under 90 degrees C. While that is definitely hot, it is actually an improvement over my 2018 15-inch MBP that shoots up to 95 C just watching a YouTube video. This is especially impressive since it only has one exhaust fan compared to the 2 in every other model of the MBP lineup. Just make sure you don't touch the part above the touch bar during a heavy workload; it can get toasty. Also, don't let the 8GB of RAM fool you. Thanks to macOS's really good RAM management, I have yet to run into a situation where the amount of RAM became a limiting factor in what I wanted to do. I do have to say though, 128GB of storage is quite limiting. I've been pretty selective with the files and apps I put on this computer, and even then I would be cutting it pretty close. My solution now is to save my Logic libraries, photos, and video files on a thunderbolt 3 external 1TB NVMe SSD. Thanks to the huge bandwidth of TB3, I don't really notice any lag when working on these files. On the other hand, it is definitely not the most convenient solution. The battery life is really good, but with a caveat, and that is Google Chrome. When using Safari instead of Chrome, I can easily last 5 - 6 hours with my typical workload. When using Chrome, that number quickly diminishes to 3 - 4, and sometimes even less. Chrome is known to be not very optimized on both Windows and macOS, so I have switched to mainly using Safari now, and only using Chrome sparingly when I need to use that one extension or need to watch YouTube videos in a resolution that's higher than 1080p. The keyboard to me is fine, but I can definitely understand the general complaint about them. I agree with Linus Tech Tips' conclusion: they're good for typing in short bursts, but might be a little annoying to constantly type on over a long period of time. A few things to note: this i5 1.4Ghz model actually has a slower SSD compared to the higher-end configurations. It won't be noticeable in the majority of use cases, but if you're editing high bitrate videos, for example, it might be slower. Also, the speakers in this model is also a little tinnier than the higher-end ones. They're still decent, but my 15-inch MBP is definitely miles better than this. ================================================================ So all in all, this is a surprisingly powerful laptop given its portability and price point (relatively speaking). It does have some flaws, but none of them are really dealbreakers to me. In previous years, Apple has always crippled the entry-level 13-inch MBP to the point that it's almost a different product compared to the higher configs, but this year (2019), the entry model is finally up to par with its more premium siblings.

The built quality is very very good. (Bought the Silver finish) Mac OS im getting used to, as im new to the ecosystem. Preinstalled apps for opening word, excel, pdf, power point is a plus point (not required to install apps immediately after you buy a new one) 16GB RAM with 256GB SSD version at this price would have been nice. (ended up with 8GB version for the white friday sale) Apple TV+ one year bonus free subscription for any new device purchase as mentioned in Apple website could not be earned as Amazon is not under Apple selected retailer. App store mostly I don't see Free content, all the apps that are visible in application home page even inside categories are "PAID" apps (makes you wonder if there are any free apps)- filters for paid and free in the page could be appreciated Keyboard i feel it works better till today. (2019 version) Trackpad gestures are the best (and the big size is even better) Secondary display resolution (magnification) scaling could be better (maybe i dont know how to adjust) Not a power use, for a normal use it does have pretty excellent performance.
