Works
I was getting the dreaded F21 error code on my Maytag 5000 series washer. I cleaned out the filter, I cleaned and repositioned the drain hose, I sacrificed a few small woodland creatures to clear that error code. They sort of worked, but only for a short time. Looking into forum after forum, it sounded like my drain pump was on its last leg. This particular model isn’t an exact fit as far as where the “feet” sit, but everything else fit like a glove. I went ahead and zip-tied it in place once I got the hoses and wire connected. So far I’ve run a half dozen loads in the washer and haven’t gotten the F21 error code. Fingers crossed that it holds up over time!

Easy to install, fixed "drain blocked" error code
Our washing machine, a Whirlpool Duet, had an F21 code. The pump made a loud clicking noise and it did not drain. I also noticed the top of the pump motor was very hot. I checked the drainage tube by blowing through it and it seemed find, so the issue was pretty clearly the pump. I took it out, took it apart and cleaned it (lots of gross gunk inside), put it back in and crossed my fingers, but it still didn't work, so I ordered this replacement pump and it arrived within a couple of days. The installation was pretty easy. Drain all water in the system by removing the drain filter - use a flat pan or towel to catch the water. Unplug the motor and unclamp the hoses. I did not need to unscrew the clamp holding the old pump to the bottom of the washer. with my model, I just pushed out the large rubber wedge that is next to the clamp and slide off the old pump. You need to use a screwdriver to pop up the wedge before you can slide the pump off. There are YouTube videos that can show how to do this. To install the new motor, you can reuse the hose clamps but they are not easy to deal with unless you have the right tool for it - you can use a crescent wrench if you don't have that tool. But I got a couple of the newer screw tight hose clamps, sizes 1 3/8" and 1". Run a few test cycles to check for leaks. This motor gets very hot too, so I'm not sure that had anything to do with the issue in the first place.

Product is as advertised!
Ordered this pump to replace my Whirlpool factory one that went bad after 12 years. This product is exactly the same as the one I replaced in every way. Getting to the pump and taking off the hose clamps was the hardest part of replacing it. This pump fit perfectly and has been quite then the old one and so far, no problems!!

What the Troubleshooting Guide doesn't tell you
When you remove the from panel from your washer there is a trouble-shooting guide attached to the back of the panel. Our washing machine, a Whirlpool Duet, had an F21 code, meaning it took too long for the washer to drain. We cleaned the filter and that helped, but the pump still operated with a loud growling noise. We then followed the guide and used a volt meter to test the Ohms on the pump, as listed in the troubleshooting guide, and they showed to be within spec. However when we put the machine through the test cycle (detailed in the troubleshooting guide) I noticed the top of the pump motor was very hot i.e. couldn't leave finger on the pump motor for more than a few seconds. That is when it occurred to me that the Ohms test checks if the windings in the motor are good. Obviously they were. However the pump was getting hot and seizing up, something the troubleshooting guide did not cover. To test this theory I left the front cover off the washer and placed a fan in front of the motor for about an hour to cool it off. Once the pump motor felt cool to the touch I left the fan blowing on the pump motor then started another load of laundry. The pump worked, although it operated loudly (a loud growling noise). However that confirmed my suspicion that the pump was getting hot and seizing up. We ordered this replacement pump and until it arrived we still had to wash clothes. To resolve this every time we started a load of laundry we placed the fan in front of the pump to keep it cool. The installation went pretty smooth. Be aware that the big hose coming from the tub has water in it so make sure you have a towel handy before you disconnect it. I was able to reuse the old hose clamps though care must be taken to ensure they are seated on the pump and not too far back where they are just clamping the hose. You will likely need to unscrew the clamp holding the old pump to the bottom of the washer. My old pump used an 8mm wrench. It might be necessary to prop the front of the washer up on a 2x4 to get better access to the screws. Once the screws are loose on the clamp you might have to push out the large rubber wedge that is next to the clamp before you can slide off the old pump. If so you need to push down ont he wedge towards the floor to pop the wedge out of the hole before you can slide the pump off. The installation should be opposite of the reverse. Before you place the front cover back onto the washer be sure to run a few test cycles to check for leaks. Don't forget to put the troubleshooting guide back inside the cover so you know where to find it the next time. And for the record, the new pump operates very quietly.

Saved me hundreds!!
I can't speak for longevity since I've had it for only 1 week. But, I'm impressed at how easy it was to install in my whirlpool washer. My husband was ready to buy a new machine but I fixed it on my own for $30 with the help of a YouTube video 😊
