There are all brands of olive oil on the market.....from all over the world. I have tried most all of them in my travels. The oil from "Huilerie D'Opio"...in Opio, France...is the BEST ever available.I had the pleasure recently to actually visit the facillity in the town of Opio. This was part of a guided tour associated with Grand Circle Tours. The 17 oz. can is a bit expensive....considering the local price plus shipping to my home in Laguna Beach, California. There are several "flavors" available....mine is the "fruity" one. I am reminded of the saying " Life is too short to drink cheap wine"...the same goes for this olive oil. I use it whenever and wherever I can....and the price is NOT a consideration! When I visited the olive mill in Opio, I tasted the product and bought only one can because I was traveling and had limited space in my luggage. What a mistake....now I have to have it shipped (I get it on line from Amazon) at twice the local price! If you are a true "gourmand" , you MUST try this olive oil. The best of the best!

delicate flavor
Very delicate and slightly buttery. One of my all-time favorites. Puget is my usual go-to French olive oil, but I'll be buying both now.

Impressive yet not perfect
Moulins de la Brague Extra Virgin Oil has an impressive body & texture: It is very rich, fulfilling, and incredibly smooth. However, its rich and fulfilling characteristic is not heavy and dominating at all, which makes this olive oil quite distinct from most other brands with similar products. It is one of the smoothest extra virgin olive oil I have ever tasted, 'silky' would be perfect choice of word to describe such smooth texture. The tin bottle is very French and chic for that matter, if not the prettiest looking tin bottle around.Moulins de la Brague Extra Virgin Oil is made from ripe black olives (of different varieties and from different regions), as opposed to green olives, which is certainly rare and even odd in olive oil industry. This partially explains the expensive price, since the Mediterraneans & Aegeans treat ripe black olives as edible olives instead of pressing them to make oil. This tradition also determines the olive prices in the market due to demand and support equilibrium, keeping the prices of black olives higher than green olives. Olive oil made by black olives generally lacks the fruity flavors, however. This is the biggest downfall according to most olive oil consumers.I have experimented with this olive oil and quite interesting results came out of it: Moulins de la Brague Extra Virgin Oil has the quality of 'bringing out the flavor' of the ingredients in your dish, whereas the majority of olive oils simply add to it. For instance, I have marinated a few slices of smoked Atlantic salmon in this oil with some freshly grinded black pepper and a much better tasting salmon dish came out of it! Although it has not added any aroma or flavor to my green salads, it simply made every single ingredient in the salad taste better, more vibrant. On the negative side, it does not have any significant aroma (nose) or much of flavor (palate). There is no finish or after-taste either. Thus, it is not the best olive oil for dipping your bread, unless you spice it up with some oregano, red chili pepper and garlic. It is too expensive to cook with, therefore I would not recommend cooking or sauteing with it. If you like the flavorful Italian-Sicilian, Greek and Turkish oils with rich aroma, this is not your oil. I strongly recommend Frantoia Extra Virgin Olive Oil instead. You will also save big bucks.Another reason for not giving it 5 stars is that my order has arrived in damaged condition, the tin-bottle was bent, which mattered since it is also a decorative item.

this oil won our taste test
My wife and I love to compare extra virgin olive oils. We put this one up against a very nice product from Italy. We dipped chunks of freshly baked ciabatta bread in each oil. The Italian variety was spicy but it lacked the satiny feel and richness of this French oil. This oil is the real deal.
