It smells nice (from the bottle and also from the machine after use). Since I can't see the insides of my machine, I can't really say HOW effective the cleaning is but the drum was shiny afterwards. I used the 60 degrees/60 minutes program on my machine but the more the water started heating up, the more it foamed. I had to stop it every 10 minutes and wait 15 minutes till the foam died down, then restart it again and repeat. I learned the hard way the first time I used it and didn't do the above - the foam filled the drum then poured out from the dispenser drawer. I use this approximately every 6 weeks since I only use my machine twice a week. Meant to keep the heating element clean from washing powder and fabric softener build up.
