As far as I can tell, proofing baskets, while not a absolute necessity, are a nice tool to have. They hold and shape the dough so that the dough doesn't flatten out prior to baking which results in more loft. It leaves a pleasing circular design in the dough as well.In terms of construction, these baskets are well made. They don't need to be cleaned after use so they will last. With a light dusting of flour, the dough releases very well...

I have several of these bannetons and use them regularly. They work well and are of good quality. Great for a gift to friend bakers!!

These are the best I have found. The flour sticks to them just right. I have used other batons that the flour would not stick to. I own a bakery and trust me these are what you want to use

Not 9" in diameter at all. The inside dimension is closer to 8.25", which I already have. I wanted a little bigger one. Sending it back.

Very nice, well made.I wished they also carried the linen liners but, easy to find on the web from others.

I really like this proofing brotform. It gives a professional artisan look to my round loaves.
