Willow Rose is back writing wonderful books. I had felt that her last two books in the Rebekka Franck series showed a decline or increasing boredom with her protagonist, but with this book she is back in form. This book is the second book of a two-partner, although it can certainly be read as a stand-alone novel.It is not a spoiler to say that Rebekka is torn between Peter, her estranged husband, and Sune, her boyfriend and colleague. While on a trip to see if she and her daughter, Julie, can reconnect with Peter as a family, Rebekka is asked to report on an unusual, but infamous, type of assault. The murder mystery aspect of the story is bizarrely brilliant. It combines urban legend with historic literature and adds a twist.Although it deals with a gruesome subject matter, the book is not particularly gory. It does identify appalling ways to murder someone, but not in disagreeable detail. So while the book obviously has horror aspects with the murder mystery foundation, it is really not enough to give one nightmares, unless one is specifically sensitive to a method of murder, e.g., the rat scene in the book 1984 gave me nightmares, but that book was not meant to be a horror story. This book is deliciously creepy, but it is not Stephen King.Rose jumps the points of view from chapter to chapter. This builds suspense amazingly well. It can also be annoying, in an amusing way, because one wants to know what happens next to whomever is the subject of the chapter.I do have some complaints. There are more typographical errors, such as typos, missing words, and confusing sentences, than is usual in her books. Further, the daughter is becoming annoying with her brattiness. Finally, Rose has people "storming" everywhere, not in anger, but in joy or excitement or just because the person is hurrying. The definition of "to storm" is "to rush angrily," so every time Rose used the word, I expected the person to be angry, which didn't fit the situation. The misuse of the word caused a real disconnect and took me out of the story, which I assume Rose would want to avoid.Notwithstanding these minor complaints, I would highly recommend this book.By the way, I don't give five stars because a book is necessarily great literature, but because it is highly entertaining and I want prospective readers to know it is worth reading. If I could, I would give this book a rating of 4.6-4.7 stars, but that degree of specificity is not available to me.

A very well written futuristic paranormal book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a large set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great futuristic paranormal movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. I have quickly become a fan of Willow Rose Rebekka Franck Series (I'm going to start some of her other books soon). This book, #5, starts with a businessman waking up in his hotel room after a quick hook up with an unknown woman, near death after being attacked. Soon, other businessmen are being attacked in a similar fashion. Rebekka, of course, just happens to be in the area where this is taking place. Although she is vacationing with her ex husband, Peter, and their daughter, Julie, she runs out on the family to go do a story. This causes more of a rift with Peter and makes her question what and who she wants in her life. However, this is quite the story and she soon becomes overtaken by the mystery. And it really is quite a mystery. As we read about the present mystery, we also read a story of the past, about a lonely, handicapped boy who has been shunned by his father but adored by his devoted mother. It leaves the reader to fit the pieces of the mystery together, while feeling for this poor little genius boy who only wants to be loved by his father. There is plenty of action (as always with Rebekka), and some crazy surprises that come up that you will just have to read to believe. Life is just never boring for our reporter heroine.

I read seven, eight first then downloaded this one to see what happened next, and haven't yet finished it.However, I've come to the conclusion that the main character is a bit two dimensional and fickle, can't make up her mind between two men, going from one to the other and then thinking of the one she's not with......boring.But what is really bugging me is the authors constant use of the word 'storm'. Maybe it's a translation thing, but the "stormed" into the room, or, "stormed" out of a room, or "storming" down the corridor, always storming, storming, storming! The characters never seem to "go" anywhere; they always "storm", always implying they are in a temper, when they're not.It's really putting me off finishing the book!

Amazing tale, skillfully told, grips you from the first page. Read it now, and it leaves you wanting to read the next book

Willow Rose lives up to her name.

This series is great. Dark stories, intelligently executed crimes, great characters, what's not to love. Roll on the next one
