The combination of FreeSync and UltraWide is fantastic for gaming
PROS: FreeSync works really well, the IPS panel looks fantastic, UltraWide perfectly fits movies and works well with most games, Multitasking support, Dual-Input modeCONS: Hard to find a con, but FreeSync is only operational in a limited fps range. It also requires a compatible AMD graphics card.REVIEW:This was my first serious gaming monitor. I researched the market in early 2015 and discovered my basic needs: Ultrawide, IPS, and Freesync/G-Sync. Unfortunately, no monitor like that existed at the time, but LG had announced and demonstrated their 29UM67 (29" variant) and 34UM67 (34" variant). The 29" is a good size for 1080p (similar to a 24" at 16:9), as the 34" is also 1080p and will have larger pixels (unlike its 1440p non-freesync cousin). It sounded too good to be true, so I had worries all the way up until it arrived at my door. As soon as I hooked this monitor up to my PC, my worries went away.I'll start on the adaptive refresh rate technology that makes this monitor unique: FreeSync. Once I found the driver, it was a simple matter of enabling both the monitor's FreeSync setting and the AMD control panel setting. To test it, I found the "Windmill Demo" (see the picture), which lets you easily turn FreeSync on and off. The difference is astounding. Screen tear is gone with VSYNC enabled, but the stuttering that has plagued gaming for years is completely eliminated. It's a very free feeling to have played video games for years with annoying stutter, then see a windmill quickly moving across the screen without any stutter. I booted up Elite: Dangerous to test it in a real application and I can say it works! You may or may not realize that stutter in every video game out there (due to vsync) is hurting the immersive feeling of playing a video game. Every time the framerate skips or stutters, whether you notice it or not, it reminds the brain that you're watching footage of an artificial environment. As soon as that's gone, you almost get a eerie feeling of immersion. With smooth framerates on the screen, your brain is more convinced with what you see and it helps a lot. I'm not comparing this to the gold-standard immersion from Virtual Reality (VR), but to existing monitor technologies. It's something you really have to experience in person, and once you do (if you dislike stutter and screen tear) you may never go back.My only complaint about FreeSync on this monitor is the limited range where FreeSync is active. I have my refresh rate set to 75Hz, and if there's a lot of activity on screen where the graphics card has to drop down to ~45fps, it may pop out of FreeSync and start stuttering again until the fps increases. I've worked around this by changing my in-game graphics settings so that they rarely drop that low in framerate. With an R9 290X, most games can run in High or Ultra without ever dropping that low. AMD's 300 series will likely handle this even better. Even with the fps floor, it's certainly better than current refresh rate technologies. It's simply that, at low framerates, this monitor reverts to being like any other monitor. Now I'll hit on the other features for a short wrap up. The IPS display is fantastic. I've only owned TN panels before this one, but have been very picky about contrast, backlighting, and picture quality. This display handles colors very well, looks great in low light conditions, and doesn't suffer from backlight bleed or glow that has plagued other LG UltraWide panels (maybe I got lucky). The monitor has a few built in features that are helpful. You can have two displays from two different sources side-by-side at the same time (see the picture where I have my PC displaying on the right and my PS4 displaying on the left). This can come in handy for certain situations. There is also an LG driver you can download that helps with multitasking. There are shortcuts that let you immediately pop multiple windows to even quadrants or sections of the ultrawide screen.Overall, I'm very happy with this monitor, and it will stay as my main gaming and multitasking display for quite a long time. I actually bought a 16:9 TN monitor to use as my "road" monitor so that I don't have to ever unplug or move this amazing display.

Absolutely stunning display.
I came from a old LG 22 1080p monitor, what display technology was used in it I am not to sure, but going to IPS only one word will suffice, WOW. Everything came packaged well and there was no damage to the box or the monitor. You get everything you need in the box including an HDMI cable, all screws and even a nice back plate that would cover up where the screws mount. You can use this if the back of your monitor faces people, mine faces a wall so I did not install it.Firing it up for the first time my graphic card just flashed the screen on and off to reconfigure to the new resolution and after that, no problems. I never really believed the hype of IPS but now I can say I am a believer. The colors on this thing are so good my mouth hanged open several times when looking at some pictures. Colors that I have never seen before on pics before this monitor. The menu is a breeze to navigate thanks to the little joy stick at the middle bottom of the monitor. This by far is the simplest menu system I have ever come across on any monitor. No more fumbling with pressing the wrong button and accidentally closing a menu. I did go through the different preset modes available but I did not enable any of them since I want to keep the color quality factory calibrated, which by the way came with a nice fancy smancy page for you to verify. On to the resolution, this was a toss up for me since I was going to upgrade to a 24inch 1440p display but as I went through different websites I came across a tool that visually shows you what screen real estate you'll have given different resolutions to screen size. Basically a 24inch 1440p display has about half inch or less of height on the 29 UW but this monitor has way more horizontal space. This may or may not be right but I am yet to regret my decision. For the gamers out there, this monitor is only about 30% more difficult to drive than a standard 16:9 1080p monitor (according to Linus at linustechtips) so you won't need a huge amount of GPU horsepower to push the extra pixels. I have a GTX 970 and only now has the card been pushed to the limit. I can't run games at max anymore but it is still forgivable.I don't have an AMD GPU so I cannot comment on the freesync technology and how well it works on this monitor but I will be changing over to team red later this year so that I can fully utilize the monitor. Speaking of which, using a "standard" GPU the maximum refresh rate is 60hz BUT when you enable freesync the maximum refresh rate is bumped up to 75hz. Which leads to my next point of overclocking and a hunch I might have, this maybe wrong or right but it gives me the idea that I can safely OC this monitor to 75hz at least since it is capable of refreshing at that rate with freesync. Someone can correct my if I'm wrong. In parallel with what was said above, don't be intimidated by people saying that lots of games don't support ultrawide resolutions. All of my games so far EXCEPT for fallout 4 have native support and even so, with about 10mins of research you can get the game running at the 21:9 ratio. Some of the games I play with no problem are:Crysis 1Rocket LeagueGTA 5All in all, best purchase I made in a long time. The price to what you are getting is huge. This monitor caters to both sides of the crowd, gamers and persons interested in increasing productivity. Just be sure to download the LG Screensplit program where you can fully utilize your display.

Almost perfect, but not quite, still a good value
I am disappointed due to a couple of things. One the images on Amazon and on LG's website make this monitor appear as if it is border-less and although there is not a physical plastic border there is a portion of the screen that that is not actual screen on the top, left and right. I have included a photo for your edification. Two the HDMI 1 port is smack dab in the middle of the back of the monitor which causes my HDMI cable to hit my monitor arm if I don't extend it out a inch or two. Now for the positives things. This is probably the cheapest 29" Ultrawide IPS FreeSync monitor on earth. The overall image looks good and the brightness uniformity is excellent. Gaming immersion is improved some by the Ultrawide form factor. I am using an outdated GTX 650ti (I know it does not support FreeSync) and it runs Battlefield 1 well enough on low. The experience is smooth regardless of using FreeSync. I still believe it is very misleading to market a monitor one way in photos, but then in reality it is totally different. This may be enough reason for me to return it and get something slightly better. However, I would have to spend a significant sum of money to beat this monitor. This is a good monitor at a very fair price so don't concern yourself too much. If you already have a smaller 1080p monitor and you just want something bigger and better there is no reason not to buy it. I came from a good quality 2560x1440 IPS monitor so my expectations had been a bit higher. I would also consider the 3440x1440 34" version of this monitor, but only if you have a whole bunch more coin to spend. Last item of note...you will find that many games including the very popular Overwatch does not support this aspect ratio properly. Like any newish format or standard 21:9 is still not accepted or recognized by more then a few game developers.

Buen monitor
