I have just fitted it on to my second bike and it is a fantastic piece of kit. You lose any double or triple chain wheel at the front but the bafang power assist more than makes up for it. It is fantastic. I am 71 years old and having the time of my life.

Bottom bracket is 'rust welded' in, bike shop says threads will strip. would this motor kit still work if I cut off pedal crank with angle grinder?

One side of the motor does not use any threads, the other side receives a large nut that is threaded onto the bottom bracket external thread. If you cut off the pedal, but leave both the bottom bracket intact and its external thread, the installation will procede normally.

Does it seriously advise not to ride in pouring rain? what good is that?

I ride mine all the year round in all weather's no problem,I just try not to submerge it under water but I have seen people on YouTube ride through ford's with no problem.I have never read anywhere warning not to ride in pouring rain.

Does this work with disc breaks?

Sorry, I can't help you, as it broke before I managed to mount everything on the bike. Problem of 73mm bracket. I wanted to mount it on the bike with disc break I think it is not a problem what type of breaks you have.
