Excellent quality has earned Anker a new brand-loyal customer
I went into this purchase with a healthy amount of skepticism developed over the course of years of disappointment with all types of USB chargers. I thought that it would be good for the price, even if it wasn't as good as advertised. I'm pleased to say that I couldn't be happier.Context: I've used my Anker 5-Port Desktop Usb Charger with PowerIQ Technology, 40-Watt, Black at home and on the road for over a year now (Nov 2014 to Jan 2016). Last month, I bought another Anker PowerPort 5 (40W 5-Port USB Charging Hub) Multi-Port USB Charger for iPhone 6s / 6 / 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 / mini 3, Galaxy S6 / Edge / Plus, Note 5 and More (Black) as a gift for a family member who admired my old one on a trip, and a Anker PowerPort 10 (60W 10-Port USB Charging Hub) Multi-Port USB Charger for Apple iPhone 6 / 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 / mini 3, Samsung Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge and More- Retail Packaging-(Black) to add convenient charging to my home bar.Positive notes:+ My old 5-port has held up beautifully over the last year. The 10-port seems to be of the same construction quality, so I expect the same from it.+ The AC input on the unit is a standard non-polarized "figure-eight" female connector. These maintain their connection through friction and this one hasn't shown any signs of getting looser with age. If you lose the included AC cord or just want one of a different length, you have plenty of options available. e.g. Ziotek Notebook Power Cord, C7 Figure-eight Plug, 1ft. , HDE 2 Pin Non-Polarized Universal AC Cord Figure-Eight Laptop Charger Printer Power Supply 5 ft Cable , and maybe SF Cable, 2 Prong Right Angle Plug Adapter, USA IEC 60320-C7 receptacle to NEMA 1-15P . They're standard enough that you should be able to find one at any local hardware store in a pinch.+ The USB outputs all provide quick charging to any device I've plugged into them.+ The device never gets overly warm and doesn't make any noise that I can hear (with one exception -- see the negative note below). I'm very sensitive to this so it wouldn't get more than 3 stars with any detectable sound.Negative note:- The one device that didn't work out very well was the Qi charging dock that shipped with the Google Nexus 4 ( LG Mobile WCP400 Wireless Charging Orb Nexus 4 , I think). The dock charged the phone correctly but there was an audible buzz coming from the device while it the dock was connected, irrespective of whether it was charging.Unknown:* There are some important electrical characteristics in USB chargers (conversion efficiency, output voltage, current, noise, ripple, sag, etc.) that I don't have all the equipment to test. I've come to expect quality from the brand but I can't speak to these points. Ken Shirriff has a very thorough analysis of a handful of USB chargers that explains these characteristics in detail.

A good investment for a home with multiple power-hungry devices
I own several Anker power adapters and portable chargers. The PowerPort 5 is a charger that I specifically recommend for home/dorm use. It is perfect when you want to de-clog your surge protectors or power cords while sharing the power adapter amongst everyone at home. The 5 ports are sufficient enough to charge your devices since it supports PowerIQ and VoltageBoost (providing the maximum charging speed). The PowerPort 5 device has a sleek matte feel and with the included adhesives, you can secure it on the side of the table to save space (which I did) or in any area you wish. The matte exterior made it less slippery should you decide to just place it on top of a surface without the adhesives. The good thing with its design (charger + cable), as compared to other multi-port chargers, is its stability when attached to a power port or cord, you wouldn't encounter issues with the charger tilting off the plug or occupying space by covering up other plugs. The downside of the design is in its portability. This is the reason why I recommend this for home/dorm/work use. I would recommend the Anker dual port or quad port charger for travel use. This is a universal charger and you could just keep all those power adapters that came with your devices. Just attach your devices with the appropriate cables to the PowerPort 5 and you would not need to worry about overcharging anymore. The surge protection feature is also a plus. I have tested this by charging an Android tablet, iPad, iPhone, Kindle, USB lamp, USB fan, and Bluetooth headset and speaker - the supported devices were flawlessly charged at their maximum charging speed. There are no indicator lights on this charger so this could either be an advantage or a disadvantage. Some folks prefer the indicator lights while some find it bothersome. I prefer the PowerPort 5's simple design with no lights, I find indicator lights glaring when I'm charging my devices at night with all the lights off.Getting the PowerPort 5 will make a good investment because instead of buying a surge protector plus multiple power adapters, you will only need this to charge as well as de-clog your plugs. It is quite affordable for the features that it supports.I have attached some photos comparing its size to an iPhone 5 for reference. It is slightly thicker than a deck of cards but not entirely bulky or heavy. It is still portable if you prefer it for travel use. The included charging cable's length is sufficient enough to position the power adapter away from a power outlet. The cable includes Velcro bands to organize it along with other cables or to just simply secure it when not in use.

Compact, powerful and portable
This is the 4th I’ve bought. I have ones for home and travel. That I can have separate, long cord for Europe, the UK and the US to reach across hotel rooms is invaluable. Recommended.

Great for home and travel
I have bought a few of these already. One for home and another for travel. Great to charge all your devices at once in a hotel room. This one I purchased from my dad because his computer USB ports were not conveniently located. He can now charge all his devices on the counter where he keeps this plugged in.
