I Am Missing (David Raker Missing Persons)

Sometimes what we
Sometimes what we fear in the dark seems closer than even our own minds can admit to. We all like to be seen as brave, to know what’s likely to be true or not, the difference between everything being not like night and day, but more a Scottish term, The Gloaming, a short space of time near dusk where people either find peace or not. It seems such an apt term for this book as nearly nothing is what it appears at first glance, not much more at second or even last. This book pulls you along whether you want to go or not, and admit it, you really want to!The crimes, the people and even the island itself self are running towards & then transecting each other with every turn of the page, and let me say it makes for one hell of a great book. If your like me, then you will find all the guess work and character development SO much worth every single cent you paid to be able to enjoy this book. Finally, we appear to have come so far in this world, our technology, our intellect, our compassion and empathy for the world we have now, from street lights to computers our ability to communicate with others, but, put us outside on a dark, wet, dreary night all alone with no escape and whisper sweet nothings in our ears about the things that can be heard, that might be true, leave us where we have no choice but to stay, to try to pretend those noises are nothing, it’s just our imagination. Maybe in the light of day we could perceive this, understand it, but not then, not with every creak , not with every hot breath we feel next to us and not when the lights go out….

Another great one from Tim Weaver
I've loved all the books in this series and this one was no different. I so enjoy the way he weaves a story that you can't tell how it's going to end until the last few pages, I love the suspense, the mystery, the main character, the writing style, everything! Am waiting excitedly for the next one now.

Another great novel from Tim Weaver
Another great novel from Tim Weaver, don't let the one or two negative reviews from readers put you off! I've read the previous David Raker novels and enjoyed them, this is slightly different as the person isn't missing as such just has no memory of who he is or where he is from. Fast paced and throughly enjoyable.

ENGAGING
Wow! Loved this book as I continue to read all material by Tim Weaver. This novel doesn't fail , how horrible would it be to have amnesia and couldn't remember anything or is it

Not sure about this one, went round and round ...
Not sure about this one, went round and round in circles, although did have some tense moments, but couldn't say I was gripped from the first page, perhaps to much similarity to all the previous books.

David Raker.
I've been waiting months and months for the next instalment of the David Raker series which I've read from the beginning. (quite a few times). Again this book had all the twists and turns that you come to expect from these fabulous books. They grip you and make your heart pound on a number of occasions. I love this series and I'm constantly hooked by the storylines and the way Tim writes them. Would recommend to all who love a good thriller but with a different twist to most crime/thriller out there. I'm devastated I have to wait another year for the next one. It will be back to the beginning again I think. Fantastic series.

Great fast paced thriller. 4 and a half stars.
I really enjoyed this - I cannot remember when I last read a thriller that began at the beginning and finished at the end, without jumping around different time frames, causing me to scrabble back and forth through the book, trying to remember who does what when. This was set pretty much over a few weeks, and though there were some scenes from an earlier time, they were with different characters and in a different font and it was easy to keep up.I'm not usually a fan of fictional settings - in fact I would go so far as to say I avoid them - but in this case the part of the book that was set in a fictional place was well done and I even googled to see if it actually existed! So, this is the 8th book in a series about David Raker, a private detective who specialises in finding missing people. I think I may have read one of Tim Weaver's books many years ago and wasn't impressed. I'm glad I gave him another go as this was quite unique. Raker had to try and discover who 'Richard' was, several months after he washed up on a beach on the south coast. At first I was struggling with the whole concept of no one knowing anything about him but, with only a tiny modicum of suspending belief, it did actually seem almost possible with what Weaver had done with the story. Richard was a kind but sad character, who was desperate to discover what was behind the couple of memories he did have - a beach and the opening credits to a TV programme. It was fairly obvious early on that it would probably be better if he remained in the dark, even if it wasn't really possible to guess exactly what had happened to him.All in all a fast, enjoyable read and I will certainly look out for more of Tim Weaver's books.

another great book by Tim Weaver
I am a huge fan of the David Raker series and had been waiting for what seemed like forever for number 8 - I am Missing. The series follows journalist turned private investigator David Raker as he looks for missing people and attempts to solve some complex and haunting cases. (Whilst the whole series is definitely worth a read, you do not need to begin the series in order or to have read any of the previous books before starting I am Missing).I am Missing is different to the other books in the series as the missing person is actually the one who contacts Raker. Richard has amnesia and needs Raker's help to find himself. What Raker uncovers is a tangled web of secrets, deception and murder.Tim Weaver is an outstanding writer and always manages to do a brilliant job of making you feel as though you are only a few steps behind Raker at all times, due to the detail he gives to the surroundings. Raker is easy to relate to, he is passionate about helping others and discovering the truth. In my opinion I am Missing does not compare with the other books in the Raker series. It is a good book with plenty of twists and a good plot but I feel as though the book lacked something that the others have although I'm not quite sure what. I felt that I did not connect to Richard as a character and therefore that made it difficult to become invested in his situation and Raker's attempts to discover his identity. I felt underwhelmed towards the end of the book and wasn't gripped by the ending as I usually am. I'm not sure if the concept of the missing person being present in throughout the storyline worked and I'm not sure that the concept of Richard suffering from amnesia particularly worked and seemed to just add to the complexity of the already hard to follow plot. The second part of the book is based on the fictional Empress Islands. Raker goes from being on a cruise ship, to the Empress Islands, to 'the Brink' in very quick succession. There are also very brief encounters with the characters who actually hold the all of the answers, making the conclusion seemed rushed. I feel as though more time could have been invested in these characters as after all they integral to the conclusion. However whilst this was not my favourite in the Raker series, this does not mean that I did not enjoy it. There were twists aplenty and I was gripped trying to work out what exactly was beyond 'the brink'. Tim Weaver has the same brilliant flair for setting the scene and ensuring you keep turning the page. There is also an extract from the next book - Raker number 9 - at the end of I am Missing. These two chapters hinted that the next part of Raker's journey will be very personal and will shape his life like never before. I enjoyed these two extra chapters and feel that the next instalment may be some of Tim Weavers best work.

Good
I understand this is a long series involving David Raker however, unbeknown to me, I’ve arrived at book 8.Never mind, I’m sure I’ve missed loads but this is a new case to solve so I read it as is.It’s a fab opening that will create a hook right away and draw you in.Great well thought out plot with lots of twists.

Another fantastic read
I love this series and this is, yet again, another release that doesn't disappoint. The synopsis is there for all to see so I won't go into it. Tim's writing is fantastic and keeps you turning those pages, leaving the mystery of the story to unravel towards the end. This one kept me guessing all the way, one of the reasons I love the Raker series (every book is the same) and I'm amazed at how well crafted the book is. In fact, they all are.Would definitely recommend, even as a standalone read.
