Precious Memories of a Much-Loved Radio Show
Everyone, of course, should know the answer to the old joke "Which was the best Britpop band, Blur or Oasis?" The answer, if it really has to be given, is "Pulp." For me, Jarvis Cocker is a local lad made good, and I have continued to marvel at how he's become a citizen of the world while remaining as Sheffield as a bottle of Henderson's relish! And for years, Jarvis Cocker's Sunday Service was essential listening for me. His whimsical deadpan delivery was perfect for Sunday afternoon relaxation, and the choice of music was fascinatingly eclectic. Fans of the show continue to mourn its passing. So listening to this CD while reading the extensive liner notes - written by Jarvis - is as close as we can now get to enjoying a show. And, well, JC, that'll just have to do, won't it?

A chocolate box of mellow oddities!
This really works! I bought it assuming that any music placed alongside the Anthony track would be similarly beautiful (Get the live version of ‘crazy in love’ if you can it’s actually even more gorgeous)Anyway, the album is really cohesive. Even the stranger tracks work in its consistent whole. Most of the tracks I was unfamiliar with, some were an auditory revelation. Just listen to the steel drum take of ‘cars’. Really quite special.I can see this album being played a lot. It’s perfect late autumnal chill out bliss. And yes it’s a little weird but it’s all the better for it.Bring on a second volume!!

Great album
There isn’t a bad track on this vinyl double album. The songs aren’t by Jarvis Cocker: he once presented them as DJ of a radio show, and he provides sleeve notes.

Not for cocktail parties!
I bought this because I love Jarvis, but didn't expect all the spoken word stuff (I know, I should have checked) which I might find interesting in a different context, but not here. The music selection is brilliant, which makes the "disappointment" greater.
