Timberkits Double Bass Player Automata

bought for my husband at Christmas and he enjoyed making this - it is a little fiddly(no pun) but slow but sure he made it and it works perfectly. As I have said on another review - we just need the piano player to make up the band !!!

The wooden shapes are badly cut out, in some places they are torn rather than properly cut through. Two of the pieces have had holes drilled in the wrong place and are badly filled with a much darker coloured wooden peg which isn't wide enough to fill the hole so there is a space at one side. It's in a prominent position so spoils the appearance. The instructions are pretty difficult to understand, however for the price they are ok value. I'd prefer to pay a few pounds more and get better cut pieces and better instructions.

A couple of errors in the guide led to a mis-stuck piece and now an unfinished item! The other timberkits have been fab but so disappointing to get this one wrong! Do NOT stick any piece until you have made it all first roughly and you are completely ready to finish!

I If you broke these wood parts whilst making this model you be very strong or determined. I enjoyed making the Double Bass Player it put the grey matter at work agaIn and kept me busy, quiet and , apart from the odd expletive , satisfied of a high quality finish

Nice quality kit with easy to follow instructions which resulted in a brilliant automaton. It was a gift for my husband and he loved it .

Extremely charming model. The motion is complex however, and exact placement is a bit "just so" to achieve good character in the movement.One star off for a hole drilled upside-down in one of the bass body sections. Naughty naughty. If you happen to be the kind of person who has a 3mm drill bit handy, this can be overcome pretty easily.

My grandson put this together; I was very impressed...lots of little pieces, and not much room for error once you have glued pieces together. It made a good conversation piece. Very good for the money, and something a bit different.

I enjoy model making as a hobby and these kits allow me to make models without having to make individual parts. It was also good therapy following a stroke in that it made manipulation of the fingers necessary and helped with making them work again.
