"An Overall Decent Beef Jerky"
When you get bit by the "I gotta have it" beef jerky bug, we often times find what's available out there sub-par and expensive...and the cheap ass commercial beef jerky is often just a meat sludge that has been formed into pieces or strips of what seems like regurgitated meat by-products.Well, I'm happy to report that "WILD RIDE BEEF JERKY COWBOY STRIPS, BARBEQUE, 16oz BAG" makes a rather successful attempt at changing all that previous jerky heartache and give us an adequate product that soothes the meat beast within, and does it at an affordable, budget-conscious price that we can all enjoy.Generously cut strips of 100% pure beef that has been marinated in barbeque sauce and spices then smoked (artificial smoke flavoring added) to a savory, salty/sweet snack that can become quite addictive, especially if you have the munchies after a healthy smoka-da-ganja session and need to satisfy with repeated hits of this soft, tender and delicious real beef jerky. "WILD RIDE BEEF JERKY COWBOY STRIPS, BARBEQUE, 16oz BAG" definitely hits the spot.So reach into the fat bag of "WILD RIDE BEEF JERY COWBOY STRIPS, BARBEQUE, 16oz BAG" like the ravenous animal you know you are, grab a strip or a chunk of this savory jerky, shove it your wanton mouth and proceed to go to "why haven't I found this sooner?" nirvana while marveling at the wonderfully satisfying size, texture, look and taste of the stuff the REAL cowboys eat...the cool ones anyway.

good Amazon value
whenever Amazon sells Jerky under $1 per ounce, I always like to sample it. I recall seeing this brand at my local Target over $1.50 per ounce (BTW - Target's $1/oz house brand Pepper Jerky is great). I tried Wild Ride's Peppered and Hickory, since sweeter flavored Jerky are rarely done right. Peppered is always a safe flavor to try since few makers can screw that up, and this one did not disappoint - very nice balance of pepper and smoke without downing it in salt. the Hickory tasted like pickled meat with a strong dill and parsley aftertaste, while being way too salty and moist. both had about the same gristle percentage than that cheap import Amazon sells from World Kitchens Jerky. If you like your Jerky drier, just leave it in the fridge in an open bag for a few days. I'd call the Pepper a 3 star jerky, and the Hickory 2 star jerky, that both earn a bonus star as long as it's available under $1/oz. One annoying thing about the package - the ingredients list is microscopic - sort of makes you wonder what they are hiding...

Taste Good but can be a hit or miss
I love beef jerky and I'm not picky to all the additives and stuff as long as it taste good.SO this jerky taste good. I get it every month because I'm on the subscription and only pay $13.00, so for the price it is actually GREAT. I've never had a problem with the jerky being moldy (like other reviews have mentioned) but there are times when there is a lot of gristle/fat and it is not the best looking. I usually will take my scissors and go through the whole bag and cut off the fatty pieces (some months there is more fat than others) It would be nice if there was less fat and I knew what I was getting every time but after cleaning it up it is usually really good and tender for most of the part. For the price it's good and I will continue to order it as long as that price does not go up. There are other Jerky's that I order for more money and it is better tasting and better quality than wild ride but that is to be expected. This one is good and will satisfy your cravings but it you are looking for great quality then I suggest you try some of the more expensive brands such as "Wild Bill" or Buffalo Bills" or even some of the game jerky.I buy both because I just love jerky.

Another solid wild ride product
This is my 3rd favorite wild ride jerky (behind Teriyaki and Sweet & Hot). As with the rest of the Jerky products they make, this one is tender and savory. I have ordered at least 30 jerky products (varying flavors) from Wild Ride and every time the product is delivered fast and is consistent in relation to good taste, tender meat, and proper packaging. What you buy the first time is what you get the second and third time as well. This cant be said about all smaller food product companies. They dont over pepper, but still season it well enough for us who enjoy a little "kick" to our jerky. This is a first rate brand and i cant wait until they gain enough notoriety to be sold in stores nation wide. Until then, they can count on me to be a faithful buyer on amazon.

It was pretty good.
I gotta say..... I enjoyed this bag of jerky. I ordered the sweet and hot and it was just as good as any other beef jerky brand I have ever had. Was it greasy? Yeah, a bit. Not any more or less than others. It was moist and tender more than greasy. Did it have fat on it? Yeah. A few pieces, but honestly, those taste the best to me. I guess I like all kinds of beef jerky except for the dried out, harder than leather kinds. I don't mind having to chew, but I can't stand the type that is almost too hard to eat. This was not like that. It was moist, tender and juicy with some good flavor. I am getting it again. Might not be the best that is out there, but it is pretty good.

Too much grissle in this jerky
This is really tasty jerky and the price is right, but ~20-30% of the jerky strips in the bags I purchased contained some sort of "gum-like" inedible grissle that I end up spitting out. I've bought 2 bags of this product approximately 30 days apart and both were like this. I'll try one more bag for the reasons I cite above, but if the next one is like the 1st two, I'm going to stop buying this product. It's a shame, because as I said, it really is tasty.UPDATE FEB 2010OK ... I've kept my monthly subscription to this Jerky ... What can I say ... Every 2nd or 3rd piece from the bags I've been delivered turns into a gum ball that I'm not willing to swallow, but it is just so darn tasty. Dunno how long I'll stay with this, but for now ... I sort of look forward to the monthly delivery.
