Don't let the price of competitors undermine the quality of this device.
Amazing device. To first address anyone (like me) who sees other blenders like nutribullet be half the price fool you. Granted if you only want to do smoothies on the cheap you probably can just go to a competitor. But having smoohties from this compared to the nutribullet (600 watt) is night and day. The consistency is the same from start to finish, in the nutribullet I'd end up with a fairly thick start, a watery end, and seeds (chia, strawberry and other fruit seeds) lingering at the bottom. Using either manual or the smoothie setting does a much better job with dicing up seeds to mere grit (more if you go higher for longer periods), which I prefer, and you never get multi consistency smoothies, it's thick all the way through. The quality of the double walled smoothier to go cup is amazing and very easy to drink from albeit the pop tab is a bit tough but I got used to it. I've made great soup in the device as well, the addition of the smaller blender container really makes this far more versatile than a nutribullet. Not to mention the build quality is amazing. Attention to detail was made in every aspect of the device, from "knob-feel" and response, thick stury cord, feedback from the device on when and when you can't use it if it's not set in correctly, the drain spout in back for easy cleaning (though having it drain over the chord is a bit unnerving, it's not a hazard since wires or sockets are not exposed to water, and the fan to keep it cool.So far the only con is that in addition to standard noise there is quite a bit of vibration from the device which I'm more concerned about when blending early and the sound may not reach the neighbors but the vibration will. I set it atop a thick oven mit to absorb the vibration which seems to work (tested with something set on the counter and watch for movement caused by vibrations before and after). The other con is that even though the to-go cup is awesome, you have to carefully plan the items going into your smoothies and optimize it to allow it to not overflow when you put on the blending blade. Since inside the cup there are 4 convex rails that run along the length of the cup (I think maybe to facilitate bringing items into the blade) and reduce the volume of what can actually go in, especially solids like ice and frozen fruit. I've underestimated how much can go in, overfilled it with liquid and when you put on the blade it will overflow. You have some leeway because the blade itself has some extra space, but most of the overflow is caused by liquid spilling through the loose threads (which isn't a bad thing, as it makes it easy to put on and the gasket really does the work to seal the device, another wonderfully user oriented design I love).Overall I have no regrets on this purchase other than that you can downgrade and get a refurbished model from the vitamix website itself. I found the smoothie setting just runs it on a low setting first to break down the items and the nramps it up to about 7-8 for the duration for further blending. Either way the smoothies setting is useful for me to walk away and do other things while it's blending, which I actually like. Great Product

Easy to use, great for simple smoothies
Is a great dependable blender. I got it for smoothies and it works well, not as well as the Accent series, but I think more dependable and easier to use than competitive brands. My only issue with it is I make very thick smoothies with seeds and oats, the motor will crack the seeds but doesn't pulverize them like the Accent series does. Cleaning is excellent, the pieces come apart easy, the machine itself has a drain so you can rinse that part out, takes less than 60 seconds to clean up with hot water after use. The set programs are excellent, you can hit it and forget it while you are cleaning up the counter or prepping the cups.

Absolutely Love It! Better than Ninja by far!
Absolutely love this blender! Honestly since I heard Vitamixes were loud I was expecting somethinf obnoxiouslt loud, but was okay with it since its a good blender. Come to my surprise its not as loud as I thought it was going to be. I also love the recipe book this comes with! I was expecting a few recipes, but it is categorized and there are several recipes for you to try out with your new Vitamix. My sister who was more skeptical of this product than I was absolutely loves it and plans on getting on in the future. She owns a Ninja which is far more cheaper and she suggested I get one also since it works well and is cheaper. After she came to visit me and use my blender she is blown away. She told me she was going to by a Vitamix in the future. I asked her if she was serious because she just got her Ninja 2 or 3 months ago and she said the smoothness and quality of the smoothie she made with my Vitamix is far more superior than her blender. Some of the ingredients in the smoothie were apples, kale, and spinach. All of those are a little more harder to blend smoothly and she was blown away. I absolutely can't wait to try other recipes besides smoothies and this is definitely a good investment!

Works ok, might be a bit too small and it certainly is overpriced.
Amazon Verified Purchase.1 star deduction for being overpriced. This thing works well, except i think it's probably a little smaller than I need. My first smoothie was fabulous in the 20oz travel cup. My second was just as nice, but I wanted to make more and there wasn't enough room. Now I'm struggling to decide if I should return it and get the refurbished 5300 for the same price. The 40 oz pitcher is good enough to make 25oz or so of product, at least from what I've experienced so far, but I'm not sure how well the wide bottom pitcher of the 5300 actually blends for my intended purpose... from reading many online reviews, many people suggest getting a second smaller pitcher just in case. So a bit of trepidation in returning it for a different product. So far I'm not displeased with the results,, but I'll continue to test it to see if it's sufficient. Overall operation and quality appear to be just fine. It does seem to be quite overpriced compared to what you're getting with one of their full sized products.UPDATE: Yeah, I've returned it. While it was nice, it was very underpowered. I ended up getting a refurbished 5300 and it is quieter and blends better. Definitely get a full size unless it's something you'll be traveling with.
