My First Victorinox
My actual first knife like this was a flea market knock-off of the same type and color over twenty years ago going for $0.25 and it was lame, but I thought I would get one real Victorinox to see if it was worth the high price and at least have something as a piece to match for my Swiss-American side, if I knew how to word that correctly in English. I was not disappointed at all though with this knife and I'm very glad I decided to go full circle by revisiting my childhood knife. A real Victorinox makes a world of a difference even compared to equally priced multi-tools, although I still don't feel so justified in the price when it's the same price as Morakniv's bushcraft knives. I'm also hugely saddened that I bought this knife before learning that there is a Finnish website selling Victorinox knives with Finnish flag prints and Moomins! I want to be good with my money but I might buy those anyways even after I bought this. Moomins Swiss army knife is still blowing my mind. Knife: Unbelievably sharp and sturdy. What magic is this? How did they do this for such a small blade? File: I never use these, but it files nails, so. Too bad it's not diamond coated or something extra useful. Screwdriver: The flathead on the file, it's awesome for scraping adhesive labels away gently. Mirror: There is no mirror but the file and knife are almost like mirrors. There should be a mirror on the file. Scissors: These are high quality and well made but I find them a bit too short for practical use. Tweezers: Amazing. I couldn't believe how good these actually are. Very good materials used here. Toothpick: Junk to be honest, not rigid enough to be of use. Make this silver or stainless steel. Plastic Case: As in the handle, prone to scratches sadly but Cobalt Blue is lusty. Ring: Nothing impressive but not bad. Looks good enough for key chains and necklaces. Emblem: The metallic Swiss shield is top notch. I initially wanted to buy this to carry around but I just leave it home as a hygiene knife because I worry it could fall out of my pocket and I'd never know. This knife is perfect for hygienic use as the knife is like a surgical scalpel to get under ingrown hair pores and you get scissors to cut away old skin from blisters, or to cut hair. Tweezers and toothpicks are more obvious for hygiene purposes and the file of course is made for finger nails. The back of the file is basically a mirror, even if horribly narrow to use. The flathead screwdriver can function as a scraper probe kind of apparatus. It feels ironic that they would mess up on making a decent toothpick. I didn't think I would make much use of this knife but now I'm amazed by the quality that a real Victorinox provides which makes this knife extremely versatile and highly usable for everyday use. Besides hygiene, it's great for opening letters and other such household use, but I'm trying to not cross contaminate my knife now. After I bought this, I learned of the Alox 2020 which is like this knife but slimmer and metallic tropical blue, which I received as a Christmas gift and will save as my collectable Victorinox. So if you're looking for gift ideas, be sure to check out those annual limited editions, because the colors are unbelievably fantastic to see in person. So don't be intimated by the price of this knife, it's totally worth the sub-$20 price as the quality is unbelievable.

Durable, versatile, and it glows in the dark!
I've given several Victorinox Classic SD knives as gifts. Other than my first Vic (the Huntsman) which I bought at a department store, I buy all my Vic Swiss army knives from this seller (Swiss Knife Shop). I bought THIS knife through Amazon because I didn't want any engraving on it and I was bundling my order with other things. Most often I buy my Victorinox knives directly from the seller because if you buy directly from their website (not here on Amazon) you can get engraving on the knife--and they always offer free shipping. Besides the Victorinox quality, the engraving is what makes them such great gits. For example, I've given these Classic SD knives to my soldiers (with last name engraved) when one would surpass all his platoon-mates in certain skills tests. I've never given one as a gift and seen disappointment on the recipient's face. I give these to friends and family too. I bought this Classic SD with Stayglow scales as part of a (Altoids-type) survival tin I'm assembling. I chose this knife for my survival tin primarily because it's the perfect size to fit in one end of a Sucrets tin and it will glow in the dark after exposure to light for awhile. While not very large, it has several tools that will be useful to get things started in a survival scenario (beyond the obvious blade). In the unlikely event that I (or someone using one of my kits) gets separated from their other knives, if I (they) still have this kit, there is at least ONE knife still available. I've used the nail file on these Vic Classic SDs to strike sparks from a fire steel and it works just great! I've also used the edge of the nail file to scrape off magnesium shavings from a Doan Magnesium Fire Starter Tool and it works great at that job too!--Notice I used the nail file for those tasks and not the blade; save the sharp blade for things that require a sharp blade. Tweezers and scissors to help with threading and tying fishing line or threading a needle for sewing. You just have to use your imagination and improvise. While it's not going to the best choice for a pry bar, there are hundreds of uses you can get out of this little pocket knife. All the tools have uses and are well designed. In my opinion, anyone who doesn't see the toothpick as worthwhile simply lacks imagination. Either that or they've never been in a situation that required them to use next to nothing to change their circumstances and get out of the bad situation. The value of this little tool is limited mostly by your own imagination. The Victorinox knives with the celluloid scales (e.g. the traditional red ones) have the Victorinox shield embedded and made of stainless steel. On these Stayglow knives, the shield is PAINTED on the scale with red and white paints. Personally, that doesn't detract from the value or attractiveness of the tool to me. I'm very pleased with the quality of this Victorinox knife (and this seller) and I'll be ordering more of these.

A wonderful pen knife that isn't a jumbo blade--small blade, scissors, glow in the dark... Awesome
This was a gift for my wife who keeps in her military pack. It's just enough knife for cutting small items, opening packages, and what most of us use a pen knife for--she's active-duty military, not Bear Grylls. The scissors get more use than the knife blade, and I recommend having scissors in a knife if you can. The color and glow in the dark feature make this a special version of Swiss Army Knife (SAK). Let's face it, all the giant folding knives that folks clip in their pockets for their "EDC" is almost always overkill. Whether she's using it while in uniform for her day to day or I'm borrowing it while we're shepherding a pack of Scouts in the woods, it's a great little knife.

This is one of my favorite things
I've had one of these on my keychain for almost two decades now. I finally bought this new one because my old one finally started cracking and the knife was dull, and this was inexpensive enough so that I didn't have to give it a second thought. It's sturdy considering its size and incredibly useful. At least once a week (usually several times), I pull it out for use. I use the blade for opening packages or cutting cardboard. The nail file I don't use, but the flat edge of it makes for a nice screwdriver. It's small size means you can even use it for smaller phillips head screws. That gets used quite a bit. And the scissors get used frequently too when I need to cut something. I haven't used the toothpick yet (I lost the pick and tweezers on my last one), but I do expect it to come in handy for when I have something stuck in my teeth that is annoying or painful and I'm at a place where I can't get floss or toothpicks. The tweezers aren't strong because the metal is flexible, and they have squared-off ends, as opposed to points. That will limit the occasions they can be used. But still, for this small size (it's not much longer than the keys on my keychain), there's a lot of functionality and convenience in this. Like I said, I use this at least once a week. Before I retired, I used it almost daily.

Expensive Model, But Glows for a Long Time
Bought for use in a First Aid Kit. The Swiss Army Knife Classic SD model is likely the single most popular SAK in the world. Its utility far exceeds its diminutive size, especially for First Aid use. Consider it has an adequate tweezers, a toothpick/probe, an adequate scissors capable of cutting thread, tape, and cloth, a very sharp small blade, and a screwdriver/file that has a spine sharp enough to scrape or "strike" a ferrocerium rod to produce sparks hot enough to ignite tinder to start a fire. THIS model is pricey, but that's due to the yellowish Stay-Glow scales (handles). Once exposed to sunlight or artificial light for a few minutes, the scales will glow for a good long while. Color and Glow is handy for use in the outdoors, being easier to spot once set down or dropped on the ground. All-in-all, while expensive, this is my choice for a good tool to have in a First Aid Kit. You can save 30% by buying a standard color of the Classic SD - perhaps red for First Aid color, or light blue or pink to spot if dropped.

Easily an amazing option if you know why you buy this knife and have adequate expectations
This is my second pare, I lost the first one. It’s a tiny pocket knife for your basic needs for taking care of your hygiene and cutting things. I used to take a bigger version of Victorinox knife during my 6-7 day hikes in wilderness, but realized, that this one was more than enough for me. So I saved some weight and space in my pocket and started using this one. It’s all you need if you don’t bushcraft. I also use this for opening packages, sometimes slicing some food, taking care of my nails , cutting ropes, cutting some small tree branches and etc. you name it. After several years of using Victorinox knifes, I can tell you what I think about this one: Advantages: Most compact high quality basic multi tool in Victorinox series, maybe among other brands also. You can easily take it any ware. Blade and edge integrity might not be a top performer among best of knives, but for a small piece of gear like this and a price, hardly anything beats it. It won’t disappoint you if you have adequate expectations. My lasted 2 years before I lost it, I’d still be using it. A knife is sharp, scissors are good, nail file works great, tweezers are OK to use too. Built quality for the price is great. Disadvantages ( these might not all be disadvantages, but things to consider to help you understand whether this product is suitable for your needs and usage ) : This knife is small, and might not be as hardy as other bigger versions, So if you want something for a heavy duty use , maybe better choose something else. The handle is small, So the ergonomics of this knife is not the best , but hay, it’s a POCKET knife, remember. If you need serious cutting performance, this might not be the best option. It’s small, but that can be a disadvantage, if you are not careful. I lost mine , probably fell out of my pocket without me noticing. It’s weird for me why Company adds a tooth pick , I can’t imagine myself using something I carry outside in unsterilized conditions as a tooth pick. They could add something else. Just a personal preference. So yes, I do use this knife daily, even in hikes. Also great for ultralight hikers. A compact tool that won’t fail you if you have right expectations. Btw, Sorry for bed spelling.

A Small But Very Useful Tool
I love this little knife and carry it with me everywhere. It will not kill a bear, cut down a branch or open a can of beans for you but that is not what I bought it for. I have lots of other knives that I carry in my pack or car for those bigger jobs but most of the time they are too big to carry with me all the time. This little guy is small enough for me to slip it into my pocket and carry around to the office or anywhere else (except for a plane, sometimes they don't let it through). There are many times my kids want me to cut of a tag on a new stuffed animal or I need to open up a package or cut a loose string off of something and this knife is there to help. I am also a geocacher so sometimes I need to use the tweezers to pull out the log from a very small nano-cache. The blade is very sharp and holds a good edge. The scissors are super sharp and work great. I don't use the file much but it works just fine as does the screwdriver tip, and the tooth pick comes in handy as well. It is really a quality little knife which I highly recommend.
