not reliable for me on Mac machines; REVISING MY REVIEW
I regret that my two year experience with this drive using Mac machines is not positive. I have not found it to be reliable. To recover files on the drive now...again...I must fire up an antique Chromebook, which sees my files so I can back them up elsewhere. It worries me and I'm not messing with this drive further.--Same issues on newer UnionSine drive. Drives mount one time but not the next...Disk Utility hangs trying to find it...workaround is to mount the drive on my ancient Chromebook...which sees the drives and files fine...then retry on Mac...usually this works but it is really weird...I see now it has to do with how I formatted these drives as exFAT as advised...both my Macs randomly spit it out and say yuck...nerve wracking as these are important back up drives...honestly WTH why are we still having drive compatibility crap like this? So apologies LaCie it does not seem to be your fault...

Reliable, Tough, and Fast – My Go-To Portable Drive
This is my third LaCie Rugged, and it continues to impress. I use it primarily for backing up video footage and large photo libraries, and the transfer speeds over USB 3.0 are consistently fast and stable. What really sets this drive apart is the build—it's survived multiple trips in my backpack, a couple drops, and even a coffee spill (not kidding). The orange bumper might not be subtle, but it's instantly recognizable and protective. Whether you're a creative professional or just want reliable storage on the go, this drive delivers both performance and peace of mind. Worth every penny.

My Workflow’s New Best Friend
This compact powerhouse, and it’s completely transformed how I manage my files. Dragging and dropping projects is now a breeze no more hunting through scattered folders or drives. Everything lives neatly in one spot, which has made my workflow so much smoother and my desk clutter-free. The transfer speeds are impressively fast, and setup was literally plug-and-play. I even tested its toughness with an accidental drop, and thanks to that rugged shell, not a single file was hurt. For anyone juggling a ton of data on the go, this little beast has your back every step of the way.

BEWARE - LaCie/Seagate insists I received a forged/refurbished (not new) hard drive
UPDATE:After this hard drive promptly failed within 5 months of purchase (with very important data that was not recoverable), the hard drive manufacturer Seagate told me directly that Empire Premium Products (AKA JMP Premium Enterprises LLC) **is not an authorized seller of Lacie hard drives and likely sold me a faulty product.** Rather than the drive being under warranty (as advertised) when it failed, the faulty drive was not considered under warranty and not replaceable by the manufacturer (Lacie/Seagate) due to the reasons outlined below:-I purchased this Lacie 5TB Portable External HDD drive on Amazon November of 2023.-It failed April of 2024.-ALL efforts to recover data aside from sending it into the manufacturer were exhausted, so I sent it in to the manufacturer to attempt data recovery.-When the dead/faulty drive was supplied to the Lacie manufacturer (Seagate) to attempt data recovery, Seagate discovered that the internal hard drive **did not match their records for the external serial number,** and therefore the product was likely a forged product (which voided their warranty).-This allowed Seagate to not even attempt data recovery on my drive because the drive itself was fraudulent. I repeat, Seagate insisted that the internal hard drive component DID NOT COINCIDE with the serial number of the external casing (so was likely a refurbished, Frankensteined drive with a recycled exterior casing).---In greater detail, Seagate asked for my original receipt from Amazon, and once they saw the seller name: EMPIRE PREMIUM PRODUCTS, they said this seller is "not an authorized seller" of Lacies, accused the seller of providing me with a "forged" drive, and said that Seagate did not have to attempt to retrieve the data and was not obligated to provide me the originally-promised replacement hard drive due to voided warranty. Seagate insists that they can easily search for the external serial number (on the orange case) in their database, and an internal serial number will be associated to that serial number on file for the external casing. They said, 'Take it up with the seller.'-Well, the seller (Empire Premium Products) does not have a contact email, only a number (if you want to call China directly), and for clarity, **the support tab for this product goes directly back to Lacie/Seagate, not to Empire Premium Products.**-Ironically, when Lacie/Seagate returned my dead hard drive (after not even attempting data retrieval, they only returned the internal drive component without the external casing). **Seagate says they have "recycled" my external casing (the orange and metal exterior portion) and that's why they did not send it back to me.*******-Now to me, this is concerning, because anyone with a functioning brain can deduce that a "recycled" orange casing floating around in the world ... I don't know ... JUST MIGHT END UP AS ANOTHER EXTERNAL CASING ON A REFURBISHED INTERNAL HARD DRIVE SOLD ON AMAZON.-In an Amazon message stream with Empire Premium Products (AKA JMP Premium Enterprises LLC), they said months ago (July 14, 2024) that they would refund the full amount of the product. From the seller: "We are sorry to hear there has been a problem with your order. Could we offer you a 100 percent refund and you can keep the item?" lol... My response was "A refund is appropriate considering the situation. Thank you."*****THIS DEFECTIVE, FAULTY, (likely forged/refurbished) PRODUCT ORDER WAS NOT REFUNDED UNTIL January, 28 2025, despite it failing April 2024.-If ZERO stars was available, that is what I would select for this product experience.-I would also give a "Zero Stars" review for the seller, but too much time has passed since the original order and I don't have the opportunity to review Empire Premium Products (AKA JMP Premium Enterprises LLC).
