Well worth it.
Please don't laugh (I'm new, but learning fast), but I had never heard of Starrett until last year when I ran across a reference in a product review on another website (something like, "It's no Starrett."). After researching further and not finding one negative comment about Starrett, I decided to invest the extra money in this punch set. No regrets, baby! This is a super high quality set. Nice and solid, with some weight to it. Knurled handles for easy gripping. If you want a cheap no-name (probably Chinese) punch set from someplace like CheaperThanDirt for $10, then fine, more power to you; but as someone having just come from that and ending up frustrated & angry because the dang things bend and break in two when trying to remove a simple pin from a firearm--not to mention scratching the finish when it does--my advice is to save your money, bide your time, and invest wisely in something that'll last a lifetime and do the job. This Starrett set is just the ticket.Update (2/7/14):I love this set, and it still gets my highest 5-star recommendation. However, the 1/16" punch has bent/broke on a couple of occasions and required replacement. If I remember correctly, I believe the two culprits were (1) the safety lever pins on the Beretta 92/96 and (2) the sear pin on a Taurus M66 revolver. In both cases, the pins were in very tight (the Taurus pin is staked) and required a good whack to loosen. In any case, it was a minor setback, and no harm done. I now keep spares of the 1/16" punch on hand in case something like this ever happens again. [Ironically, I haven't had a problem since I ordered spares!] This is a great punch set!

If You Need Them, These Are The Best!
What can you say about a set of tools that performs their intended function perfectly and easily? I am a firearms collector and hobbyist of > 50 years experience and am often working to disassemble guns that have not been used in 100 years and need a good cleaning and inspection. This set of Starrett pin punches is indispensible for such work, being both precisely made and easy to use. The knurling on the punch barrels is deep and precise, and makes it easy to hold the punch firmly and accurately when trying to line up a difficult pin. The drum-like case also makes it easy to use on the bench when you may need several different sizes and do not want to go fumbling around in a loose mass of tools in a box. They may be a bit pricey, but it is always worth paying a premium for good tools that will not let you down in a pinch.

Very nice!
If you've found these on Amazon chances are you're part of the tribe and appreciate nice tools. I bought these for a precision firearms project after suffering with cheap punch sets from HF, made the job so much more enjoyable. With free shipping and no tax, these babies are worth every penny even if you only use them once or twice a year as I do. Compare the price on these shipped to your door after a few mouse clicks and shuffling from the couch to the fridge vs. driving around and then buying a not so nice set at a chain store, and well, these start making a lot of sense. The shafts are very nicely knurled and the punch tips are precisely squared off and sturdy. Punches feel nice in the hand and work well. You'd have to break a sweat to hurt one of these, I can see. I've bent my share of HF punches but that's not saying much. Also, I wanted to say I actually kinda like the plastic case despite some of the complaints in reviews below since it keeps the set together and upright and easy to spot and grab while working at a bench. I don't see what the big deal is, it's functional and simple. Only bummer is I have to lay the case down to fit in a drawer in my mechanic's box.I just picked up the brass set in the same sizes as this set from Amazon, I have no doubt they'll be as nice as these. Well worth the money for good tools. Buy once, cry once. Life's too short to drink cheap booze or buy cheap tools as my buddy Matt with Eight Fingers always says.

Expensive, but second to none
As with everything I’ve bought from Starrett. Their tools are of the highest quality and are just a joy to use, genuine heirloom quality, though I see punches to be consumable tools due to the nature of the job they perform. I use these daily and have several sets. I miss the old wooden cases, but these plastic are good. It’s a tool that will always grace my toolbox.

Awesome Pin Punch Set
Starrett is a very old manufacturer, but this is one of the cases where not improving on perfection pays off. I had been buying these punches in bulk through various tool and industrial suppliers. Most no longer are direct accounts, so I no longer have a local source that would not be ordering them retail and then marking them up MSRP+ 30% ( it really is a shame mfr do not support the traditional stocking distribution model, but I got to zag when the world zigs )My only suggestion to Starrett, is to offer a second series, with the handle portion of each punch 3"+ longer. There are times where we would do better to span a distance, and not get a hammer in so close to sensitive components, when using these inside a clients' vehicle. This punch set is the finest. As a locksmith, I use them for many tasks. The knurled handles and longer pin length before they taper to the knurled area makes them an "accept no-substitutions" item for City Lock, a Polytechnikey, LLC companyIf I only needed one or two, I would have Snap-On get them for me, but I buy 30 at a time, so really need a wholesale price. In this case, Amazon really came through.
