Easy to use, but inconsistent
I purchased this with the intent to bring some life back to a dull mower blade. Normally, I would use a bench grinder to sharpen the mower blades, but it is currently packed away because we are in the process of moving. So, I figured I would give this a try as an inexpensive stop gap. It's very easy to use as you simply attach it on a handheld drill and run up and down the length of the blade. You do need a bench vice to hold the blade in order to use this effectively. With the blade in the vice, you just take the product to the blade and it aligns itself to the blade using the plastic guide. I found that it removes some material as it should, but it's very inconsistent. Some of the blade it sharpened decently, and other parts it left relatively dull. I would also note that not all blades fit on the balancing device very well. My mower blade has a sprocket shaped hole, and doesn't quite sit on the round protrusion well. In that instance, you are better using a nail in the wall to hang it on to check for balance. With that being said, I think it's unlikely to remove enough material to really take it out of balance.Overall, this is an OK product. I would say it is better intended for maintaining an already sharp blade than bringing a severely dulled blade back to life.

Didn't work at all. Made my blade worse. Buy a file instead.
I am not super handy so I love purchasing things like this that are supposed to make my life easier. I bought this and a vice tool to use to hold the blade firm. I saw some videos of people using tools like this and it seemed very easy. I don't know if this particular brand is crap or just the concept in general, but these didn't work at all for me.First, the item came with zero instructions. I guess that's fine because I did see videos so I know in general you're supposed to use the plastic guide on the flat edge of the blade and then run this stone across the edge. Then you can use the balancing tool to ensure your blade is balanced. The problem is, I noticed when I first put the bit into my drill that it has a bad wobble. Something isn't balanced. I tried reseating it a dozen times and I couldn't ever improve it. I tried all 4 stones and they were all this way. Oh well, I decided to try anyway. I seated the blade and started. As soon as I made contact with my blade the entire stone skipped and bounced. I cringed because I knew I just made the blade worse. I figure it was my bad, so I tried again with more control. Same thing. I tried a different speed. Same thing. Different direction. Same thing. The only way I could get it to not skip was to try and use the flat edge of the stone at an angle and use it just like a grinder, but as soon as I did the stone started to unscrew itself and became very loose.Maybe I did something wrong, but guess what? That's what happens when you have no instructions. I purchased a file and will sharpen manually.

Low cost blade grinder
This lawn mower blade sharpener does what it promises. I haven't be able to "melt" it as others wrote. Maybe because my cordless 12 V power drill is not powerful enough and grandpa taught me to always use a bit of water to cool the grind stone. Just as another reviewer commented. I sharpened a badly beat up mower blade with it. What a difference. I wished they would mention in the instructions to spray some water as lubricant and be gentle with the plastic disc or it will melt away in no time. I even used the tool to sharpen dull meat knives that I got at a thrift shop. I would buy it again. Just remember that the plastic guide is just that - plastic. If you want something more professional, get a mounted electric grinder.

Tried to sharpen and balance one of the old craftsman blade and did not work. I have to use grinding wheel. Only balancer was useful

Great idea, bad design
I love the product however the plastic guide wears out after only 2 or 3 uses.

Good if blade isnt damaged
If you keep your blades sharp and dont have chips in your blade these will work fine. Otherwise get the new style available

Good value
This set is easy to use and comes with four sharpening attachments for the drill. If using it vigorously, check and tighten your chuck occasionally as the smooth shank may want to wiggle forward a little bit.

Non performant
Tried 2 wheels and gave up. The two stones came loose and would no longer tighten up to sharpenWent back to the grinder! The balancing cone worked very well

Add a washer
Not as fast as a grinder but it works. Would recommend adding a washer under the screw - otherwise the screw eats into the other side of the stone and allows it to loosen and spin.
