The Ultimate Guide to Rulerwork Quilting: From Buying Tools to Planning the Quilting to Successful Stitching

Best book I've seen on rulerwork
If you are new to rulerwork or trying to decide on which rulers to buy this book is for you. It only discusses the rulers designed by Amanda Murphy, the book's author. But that's fine, there are tons of tips that will fit a similar ruler from another maker. I have almost all of her rulers and for basic quilting these are my go to rulers. The book is mostly about domestic machines and sit down long arms but includes a discussion section on long arms on a frame. I have tons of quilting books and this is the best I've seen on rulerwork.

Not worth buying
While I expected a book on how best to creatively use rulers, this was one long promo for Bernina sewing machines and very little else.

Excellent learning tool
This should be a 'first' book you read if you're interested in rulerwork quilting. I've taken a rulerwork class and already done some rulerwork quilting, yet I learned more from this book, learned about rulerwork in specific and also about quilting in general. I like its organization, and I love that it is so well illustrated with close-up pictures. This would be an excellent text to use in teaching a rulerwork class. I already have Ms. Murphy's Rulerwork Idea book and saw no duplication in this book - this is the how-to, while the Ideas book is design ideas. She taught me, in this book, how to fix two things I've done in the past that will make my work easier and will produce a nicer result.

Sorry I Bought It
Most of this book is advertising Bernina machines and the authors ruler sets. A little bit of useful advice but most of it a frustrating description of features of those products. A waste of time and money!

Shameless Advertisements Galore
A strange book. Yes, Amanda knows a lot. But, almost every other page is an advertisement for Bernina or her products. Instead of showing all similar available items, she shows the Bernina brand item & refers you to find out if your machine has something similar. I LOVE my Berninas, but I don’t appreciate paying money for advertising.

A good book FOR BEGINNERS
I have been a machine quilter for many years…first on a sit down machine, then on a stand up longarm machine. This book would be helpful to those just beginning to learn machine quilting on either machine but it was not useful to me. Also, as the author is a spokesperson for Bernina machines, much of this comes across as a Bernina commercial.

Good information but skimpy
As an amateur long-arm quilter I got some good information from the book. There just wasn't enough. The book is divided between domestic and long-arm machine use, which in itself is odd. Wouldn't you be using one or the other? If so, the other half is useless, and makes the book very pricey! The book has very good illustrations and is nicely written, so I wish it were longer and for long-arm machines only.

Comprehensive, well written, clear illustrations
Excellent for beginners and a great refresher with tips for the more advanced. The one ruler book every quilter should have.

Excellent tutorial for ruler quilting
It is logically written and covers the basics for ruler quilting on both domestic and long arm machines. It complements her Idea book series. For new Quilters, start with this book and add the idea books as your skills grow.
