If a size 8 is available I would get that.. They run big.

Q: are they good for Star wars cosplay?

They are. I don't know if they pass the 501st muster though. I wore them for a Nightwing cosplay and they were very comfortable

Well I normally am a 10.5 wide and if it's more narrow a size 11. So it had a size chart of XL and it fit me very well. Not oversized at all, with enough space to wear sneaker socks comfortably. So you may want to try XXL because XL at 11.5 might be too close.
