the other projectile launchers seem like better options
weak, doesn't go far enough to be interesting, the other projectile launchers seem like better options

Not a product for students!!!I cut myself launching this the first time I used it - the machined aluminum slots that hold the firing lever are not filed so it would definitely result in injuries to students. The firing mechanism requires your finger to actively dislodge the lever held by a compressed spring very very close to sharp metal.

Great for physics labs
UPDATE: after four semesters of use, these are starting to fail. The weak spot seems to be where the screw that allows the barrel to attach to base is - it's held on by two short little screws that eventually work loose and can't be fixed. However, I doubt it was meant to withstand the volume of use that it gets (launched 10 times per class x 30 classes each semester), so hard to complain.By the way, after a lot of testing, I determined the spring constant on these to be 100 N/m on average.-----------------------------------------Original review:I bought this to use with the introductory physics labs I teach. I think it will work well for both projectile motion and conservation of energy. The balls that come with it are the same size as 3/4" steel bearings I already had, so that was convenient. I like that it has multiple launch settings, so that I can fine-tune for what I need. I only have two gripes: 1) the wing nut on the side used to keep it at a constant angle does not seem to do a great job and the launcher can easily be moved out of alignment while being loaded, 2) it is very side heavy and needs to be mounted on something to be useful. Luckily, I have some extra boards from another project that will work fine, but be aware that it is not usable right out of the box.
