I LOVE THIS PRINTER - I HAVE 3 OF THEM!
I love these little all-in-one printer/fax/scanner/copier machines. I've had mine for almost three years now. I started with one and loved it so much that I bought another to just keep in my office, then bought another one for the home office. I travel alot and have to take my work with me. This little printer is small enough to take as a carry-on in a plane. I've also just kept my original packaging and shipped it numerous times to wherever I am going and it always works fantastic. It folds up quite small and ships great in its original packaging.I have seen some others complain about the ink going quite fast. Well, that's true if you don't go to your print center and reset your preferences to "FAST DRAFT" under Print Quality and under Color - you have to change it to "Print in Grayscale - Black Ink Only". Once you change to those preferences your ink will last much much longer! Still not as long as the larger laser printers, but, for a small office and/or traveling, it's should last quite awhile. In trying to estimate how long a typical cartridge will last....probably not quite a whole ream of paper. Again, that's as long as you make sure you print everything under the Fast Draft printing options and the Grayscale Black Ink Only settings. It doesn't print as fast as a laser printer either, but, again, for the small office and for traveling - it's very good. I wouldn't want to print a book, but, I do print 26-30 page reports all the time! It prints from the last page to the first page, so, when you pick up your finished print job, it's in order - no sorting.I have read a couple reviews complaining about paper jambs. Legal sized paper jambed on me so many times until I finally figured out that the paper print tray had a little extension that can flip in our out. I always had it flipped out so my paper wouldn't shoot across the room. Once I realized the legal sized paper was catching on the little lip, I flipped it back in so the legal sized paper could just keep going out during the print job. Now, no more legal sized paper jambs!!The scanning is a fantastic feature on this little machine!!! I use uFax for all my faxing. I have it set to scan everything into .pdf format so I can immediately turn around and fax my important documents right from my email account. Or, I can also just attach it to an email and off it goes. The scan quality is very good. There are actually 12 different options on what format you want to save your scanned document or pictures in.You can also fax thru a phone line or copy. I do use the copy feature quite often. It's slow processing the paperwork thru, but, the quality is very good. I rarely use the phone for faxing though. With my ufax capabilities, there is no need to use the old dial tone fax, but, if that's all you have, it's available and you'll be glad you have it if there is no internet connection.I loaded the initial software myself, but, one day it stopped working. I wasn't able to scan! After my techie friend worked on it, he just downloaded the updated version off of HP's website and it has worked fine every since. The software would be my only complaint. As long as it's communicating with your computer and HP doesn't send something thru the internet to mess up the software you already have working just fine, there are no problems. But, when they do the automatic updates, it can knock out your communication and it's hell trying to get to the right updates that make the awesome little printer start working again. All in all, it's a little workhorse! I love this thing. I can't imagine traveling without it - I love having it in my office. I use my laser printer for bigger and faster jobs, but, love having my little workhorse as a back-up and for my color print jobs.

Lacks any instructions for controls
This machine works fine (we've only used it to receive faxes). Setup was reasonably easy with the supplied documentation, though it wasn't as clear as it could be. What's missing is any information whatsoever about the use of the controls on the device. There are several buttons for controlling it, storing phone numbers, etc., but there is no printed documentation describing their use. No mention at all that there even are controls on the device. Also, trying to find anything in the online help (from within the supplied software) draws a blank, too. That supplied software also makes no mention of the onboard controls, and provides no workaround for accessing these features. As long as the initial setup works, and you don't need to change any settings with the onboard controls or store numbers, all should be well. Otherwise be prepared for a lot of trial and error button pushing.

It's not working!
My printer arrived in a timely manner. From then on, everything else went downhill. When I tried to use it, it does not work. I was getting "Paper Jam" errors even though there was not any paper. I didn't even get a chance to complete the installation process because of the stupid "Paper Jam" message.I spoke with HP's (outsourced) customer service department, and they went through all of the troubleshooting steps that are also posted on the website. I should note that the kind of paper that I use doesn't matter when I get error messages before I even put a paper in the machine. I went back and forth with HP's customer service department, and they confirmed what I already knew... that my printer was in need of a replacement. They were to send me a replacement printer. I got a confirmation e-mail, telling me that my printer would be sent out. However, the HP website had an old address. I sent an e-mail to HP, and I received a confirmation that they received my new address. But, when I called a U.S. customer service line, I was told that they only had my previous address. I was then switched over to a customer service representative whose grasp of English was not that firm. After talking (and waiting) for about 40 minutes with her, I was told that they had my new address. However, I still have not received my printer. I guess that when the replacement printer gets here, I'll be able to submit a review on the printer itself, and not the customer service with HP.

Great Printer
Bought this printer because of an economical move: its cartridges cost way less than my older printer cartridges; in fact, the entire brand new printer only cost me $39 (about the same price as a tri-color cartridge for my old HP). It prints well, I have more options for printing, and has a built-in fax which will be used more in a couple of months for my job. The downside is the scanner (mentioned in other reviews), in that you have to pull out a page from a book (or simply have a loose sheet) to run through the scanner. Otherwise, I'm very happy with this new printer and would recommend it to others!

Great for the price
Printer/fax arrived in 2 days. The included CD would not load the driver, "unsupported operating system" (I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium). The HP Support site had the updated drivers and after a short download I installed drivers and Win 7 recognised the printer as an all in one. The print quality is surprizingly good for a $40 printer. Telephone,Fax and scanner work fine. I did not install HP's full software package, only the Win 7 drivers, but it is available. This replaces a Brothers thermal fax machine and the plain paper/inkjet is a huge upside, thermal copies fade after only a few months. All in all, well worth the $40.
