If you're a fan of card games - this lives up to the hype
I bought Munchkin Zombies and Munchkin Cthulhu as Christmas presents for my sons based on a number of people raving about the game on a social media site. My wife told me I was nuts & these games would end up in our already over-crowded game cabinet. When we first sat down to play the game, I feared my wife was right....The rules for the game are spread out over a large 6-page fold-out included in the box, and I have to admit - they are somewhat daunting for someone who's never played or even seen the game played. It took us three or four attempts before we really got a grasp of the rules and how the game is supposed to be played. Once I figured out how the game is supposed to work, it seems crazy that we had so much trouble to begin with. I think the "problem" is that there's the overall rules, then there's the cards that are kind of like a subset of rules, then there's the rules you come up with yourself as you play the game. This all makes it possible to play different versions of the same game with different people. All of this is to say - if you pick this game up, stick with it & it'll start making sense after a few attempts. Bookmark the Steve Jackson game forums site & look for answers there on specific issues, if you can't find the answer to your question, the people there are extremely patient and helpful. If you are a beginner - the Zombies set is a very good set to start with - the cards are funny, and it follows the base set of rules (unlike Cthulhu, which has some additional "if/and" rules built in).As a final note - I'm very pleased by the "educational" value of this game. Of course, there's nothing to be learned by the information found on the cards, but the basis of the game is reading comprehension, cause-and-effect relationships, and working with (and against) others to get ahead. We've set "house rules" that state if you say you're playing a card or joining a battle - you're in. This forces everyone to read their cards, survey the situation they're about to get into, and consider the possible outcomes. Long after games end, my kids will bring up individual plays made during the game and we reflect on how they impacted the game - I don't think we've ever had discussions like that about any other games we've played. To wrap this all up, it's a great game - but it does take some effort to get up to speed with the game. The time invested in figuring out the game pays off in the long run - my kids will grow up playing this game.

Zombehs!
Yea, it's pretty awesome. We own all of the major Munchkin expansions and this one ends up getting played far more than any of the others. Not that the others are inferior in any way, it's just that this one is so much stinking fun. And stinking fun is always better than other types of regular old non-smelly fun. If you are familiar with Munchkin, the humor in this themed set is exactly like you would expect. Better even. You are guaranteed *not* to be disappointed. That's not entirely true of course. When you get socks again for Christmas, you will still be disappointed. When your cat pees on your bed (again) you will be disappointed (why do you even still have that cat anyway?). When you....oh well, you get the idea. At least as far as enjoyment from this game goes, you will not be disappointed in that area of your life. *(No claims are made as to the actual level of enjoyment, merriment or un-quantifiable factor of "fun" to be had by playing Zombie Munchkin. Test results made on actual living people have been inconclusive in this area. Unfortunately no zombies were available for consultation during the survey.)*If you love Munchkin (even if you've never played it before), you should try this great game! I would highly recommend buying the other Zombie themed packs along with this for even more Zombie fun-power *(see legal qualification note above). And for people thinking they are tired of all the zombie hooplah, don't worry. Even grandma loves this one, and she doesn't like anything (else) zombie related. Good fun for the entire family (ours at least)!

A nice spin to the original
I honestly bought this "expansion", thinking that it'd go with the original, due to the fact that I bought the Holiday surprise and unnatural axe (2nd expansion) and they both, were exclusively expansions. Zombie Munchkin, to my slight disappointment, was not. It is a STANDALONE munchkin as I am assuming the other themed munchkins are as well.In terms of the mechanics and differences, it's still munchkin, but race and class cards are replaced by "mojo" (which would be the class) and Power Rank # (this would be the race; you can have have multiple power rank cards as long as the power rank numbers total to at most your current level). The players in the game as zombies and fight stereotypical humans (with the usual puns and jokes). [I also originally thought that the players were going to be survivalists killing zombies, but i guess that would be too mainstream and typical.][Reason why it loses a star]: In my experience, I find that games are generally slower with less interaction. I have a feeling there's more equips and minor combat modifiers like "Usable once only" cards than there are a variety of monsters, along with there not being enough monster modifiers.Other than that, the munchkin games are always great, but if you want to add more cards to the original and have a bigger variety, get the original expansions with the holiday special [or surprise].

Undead Munchkin
I bought this game as a gift for a friend of mine who is a fan of the Munchkin games as well as I am. We did play it together as soon as he opened it and it was pretty classic Munchkin fun. A bit hard to follow at times with a new version of the game, however we were used to playing Star Munchkin, Munchkin Booty, and traditional Munchkin as well. I'm sure after a few games it would be more understandable and funner.I do have to admit it is a pretty hilarious take on Zombies... I assumed Zombies would be the monsters you would defeat, but it is exactly the opposite! You are a zombie yourself and the monsters are different types of humans.I highly recommend any of the Munchkin games!
