Adobe Premiere Pro: Classroom in a Book
B**.
Great to Learn the program
I rarely use books to learn because I typically am unable to learn in this manner. I purchased this as well as several other of the Classroom In A Book series for Adobe products.I had never used any previous version of Premiere and I was able to edit my own videos after completing a few lessons. I stopped following the lessons after lesson 7 but that was due to my own impatience to work on my own projects and not the book.4-star rating instead of 5 is due to my constant complaint about a book meant to be put in front of a computer to learn from. It doesn't fold flat or stay open when trying to work the lessons making it difficult to work. This is simply a quality book that doesn't take into account using a fold open flat spine or spiral spine. I wish books like this that are made to teach while using a computer would stay open to the page without damaging the book (creasing spine, etc).I like to take care of my books and I won't fold it back, etc to make it stay open. There are spiral options as well as a spine design that allows it to open flat. Either would make this a perfect book to learn from.

Good for first timers but watch for errors!
As a first time user of Adobe Premiere I'm glad I bought this book because it certainly shows a lot of features and how to use them. However!!! There are several errors and OBTW I'm only through Lesson 5 of 14.Another complaint I have about the book is that in many cases it could be improved if the authors would tell you why you are doing a certain thing. In many cases they do but in many others they don't. By leaving out an explanation of the reason you are doing a certain action it makes it difficult to apply steps to future videos you want to create. It would be very nice if Adobe or Adobe Press would have a place to go to discuss or ask questions about the lessons in the book so you could get feedback from either them or from other users. This is an almost great tutorial if they could eliminate the errors or refer you to a website where you could get an up to date list of corrections before you start using it.The bottom line: I'm glad I bought it. I will finish it and I will keep it for reference, but I'm making notes as I go along on all the errors I find so I don't repeat them when I refer back later.

If You're Serious About Learning Premiere Pro 2 This is the Book to Get
At this writing I'm about halfway through the book. I've run across one or two typos and one case where the title templates weren't available for a particular lesson (that's probably more of a problem with my version of Premiere than this book & DVD). I'm going through this book cover to cover rather than spending $900+ on UCLA Extension classes that I can't afford, especially when I don't know if I'll end up getting any work after investing that time and money. This is supposed to be the same book that they use for their classes. I know of someone who learned this software the same way and is working full time as an editor now. If you're serious about learning Premiere Pro 2 this is the book to get.

Doesn't work on Macs
1 star because I was unable to open the files on a Mac. 0 stars for Amazon not mentioning anywhere on this page that the DVD rom won't work on a Mac. The book is probably as great as others have said. I've had other books from these folks and they were very good. The book I received clearly says "DVD included for Windows" in the lower left hand corner. Try clicking on the picture of this book and enlarging: The exclusion is not there. If you have a Mac look elsewhere, I'm sending mine back.

Premiere Pro 2
This book was required for my Videography class, but seeing as how I have Adobe Creative Suite 4, Production Premium installed on my computer and everything is CS4, this book is outdated and I cannot use it. If your class has Premiere Pro 2.0, it will be quite useful. For me it is not, but it is still well written and educationally concise.

Excelent
Need nothing more than this book.It has exactly what I needed to know.Of course, I needed to work deep inside instructions, several times. However, I feel like a master on the subject. Even though, we all recognize We are all advancing on the subject ,and it changes constantly and fast

Great book with lots of errors on DVD
The book was great - especially the first 2 chapters - overview and turorial. Quite a few files on the DVD cannot be used making it quite difficult to follow the step-by-step instructions. I've sent a request to replace the DVD and did not receive any feedback from Adobe. I recommend the book to get a general idea of how to use the product. However, it can be frustrating when the 'finished movie' and sample files cannot be used.

Premiere's best book
This is a great book covering many aspects that those who by the Production Suite never get to see about Premiere because most video effects are done in After Effects and all DVD work is done in Encore.Nevertheless if your going to take the Premiere ACE exam this is your book.

Perfect book for beginners. Learn the basics clearly and properly.
This book is fantastic. As a total novice it guides you very gently through the history of video editing which helps you understand where the terminology comes from. It's slow to start off with and has very detailed lessons to walk through where every details is laid out and explained very clearly. You get a disc with some sample files you use as you work your way through the course and if you're a novice (I only had experience of windows movie maker) then this is the perfect book for you. You'll finish the book knowing the basic (and more) and you'll be ready to edit your home movies with a few special effects thrown in. Some of the Adobe books aren't great (like the Flash one) but I think this one is as close to perfect as you can get.
