Beauty by earth self tanner
Best non tox self tanner. Non streaky. Easy to apply. Smells good for awhile then fades to normal self tanner scent which I am fine with. Lasts for about a week then need to reapply. I will purchase lifelong. Huge huge fan of this brand. Please never change your formula. Color is white on application like a thick lotion.

No streaks! No orange skin! Even coverage!
As a former Tanning Salon Employee for 2 Tanning Salons (during my College years), I’d like to think I know a thing or two about Tanning Products. I had much practice with Versa Spa Products, as well as tanning beds, & as someone who prefers the safer option, I’ve gone through HUNDREDS of self tanning products to compare to the even spray tan you get with Versa Spa. This product is the only product I have found that not only leaves me with a summer glow, year-round, but doesn’t leave me streaky, orange nor with a funky smell. It actually has a pleasant smell! If you prefer not to use a Mitt, be sure to use lotion around your wrists & nail beds after applying. Make sure to exfoliate before applying. If you allow a day to dry & truly soak in, I recommend keeping your skin moist with a light layer of lotion. This product will make your tan last 5-7 days with lightly washing your skin & applying a second coat after your second or third shower of the week. Great product! It’s the only self tanner I will use now!

Favorite Self Tanner w/ Some Tips to Note
I absolutely love this self tanner it creates a really natural looking effortless even glow & also builds easily. I’d say as far as self tanning products (I’ve tried a lot over the years) this one is super beginner/user friendly. It’s nearly impossible to get an uneven or splotchy tan unless you just blatantly miss a whole spot & I rarely get dark patches on those spots you need to apply sparingly (elbows, knees, hands & feet) even when not being super careful about it. Now there are some things to note.. you’ve probably seen the social media ads saying you can put this on & 30 minutes later be out the door.. that statement is mostly true as long as your not going to be sweating a lot or are in a humid climate like south Florida lol. If I do that then do an activity outside it’ll rub off at any tight clothes or sock lines. If you’re in a similar case I’ve found it’s best to still apply this when you’ll be doing inside things or at night allowing it to fully develop & penetrate the skin THEN SHOWER before doing outside activities or working out. A quick rinse with a touch of soap is all you need & bonus points if you use a regular moisturizer afterwards. I’ve found this really helps lock it in & is the best way to keep your perfect glow. It also gets rid of the ever so slight fake tan smell which is very minimal with this product but still there. Lastly, transfer proof isn’t exactly true either. If you’re not sweating or do the above apply & shower method then it is correct you can immediately wear that white shirt. But (& this is how I also realized the above method was ideal lol) I applied this one late afternoon then the next morning without rinsing went on a 4 mile walk. It was early so it wasn’t even overly hot but of course it was humid & I ended up sweating. I was wearing a white tshirt, all seemed to be fine I got home & was just cooling down then like 30 minutes later went to get in the shower & realized my white shirt was completely sweat watermarked with brown tanning streaks really really bad lol. Thankfully my shirt came out of the wash perfectly white again so it won’t permanently stain but lesson learned regarding application.

One of the better self tanners
This product is probably one of the better self tanners my girls and I have ever tried. I have seen no orange tint so far, nor have I seen any lines on hands/feet where normal tints show. It has a white lotion appearance that spreads easily and is obvious to see where it has been applied. The scent is nice when applied. The only issues I have with this is it is not as dark or a very noticeable change at all on fair skin (maybe I didn’t apply as much as I should have or I should have reapplied later), and the lingering smell is absolutely terrible. It smelled like grease and dirt and stuck to my clothing and sheets. It did not leave a residue with color, but the scent was horrible. I would recommend showering as soon as allowed without the risk of losing the color.

Good for those with ultra sensitive skin and only very mild scent
I have horrible intense atopic dermatitis THIS is the ONLY thing I have used in my 63 years that gives NO issues. There is a mild tolerable smell but no absolutely no issues. Even on my face! I HIGHLY recommend this product. I believe it is the sugar derived dha that's ok for my skin. THANK U!!!

PALE GINGER PRODUCT REVIEW - This is the tanner you've been searching the internet for!!!
This tanner had the best reviews on Amazon, which is why I decided to try it. I decided I loved it SO much that I HAD to leave a review for other gingers out there looking for any self tanner that's been reviewed by another ginger (I spent hours doing that). I'm naturally strawberry blonde (for people looking for a ginger's opinion, I'm not shockingly red, but more golden blonde) and I have seriously seriously pale skin/blue eyes. So it's easy to go too dark with any self tanner I use. I have to say, this stuff is seriously awesome. If you're going to use it, here's my tips based on how the stuff preformed: It's gradual, so use it a day or two ahead of whatever event you want to be tan for. The paler you are, the more days I would give yourself. I feel like it takes a good 24 hours to really set in and give you a glow. And if it's too shockingly tan, a couple of days after it will have faded a tiny bit to a more comfortable color for you. And it fades really well so it won't look splotchy. Exfoliate your skin beforehand because that's what you *should* do. However, I didn't the second time I used it and I haven't had any issues with it being spotty on my legs or anything. Be careful you have time to walk around in a robe for a the first few hours and try not to do anything that would cause it to get streaky in places like behind your knees or whatever, but that's true with any self tanner. Not giving the product time to absorb into the skin is your own fault, not the tanner's fault. Overall, I hadn't had ANY issues with streaking. If there's a patch I missed, it was my own fault. But because it's gradual tanner, just wait a day and put some on where you missed it. It won't be super obvious to anyone but yourself on the first application if you've missed a spot. Like I said, it's really fantastic, It tans you based on your own skin color. And that's coming from a freaky pale ginger. As far as color goes, it gives you a really pretty glow that I can't explain. I wouldn't describe it as orange or brown, but rather just a shade *warmer* than freaky pale. Everyone knows gingers don't tan so I'm not going for a bronzed look (just a "not dead" skin color), so I have no clue what it would look like if you're trying to look like you slept in a tanning bed, but then, this review is specifically for other pale people like me who probably aren't going for that look either. Ok so the smell...self tanners smell like self tanners. I get so tired of hearing reviews complaining about smells in fake tanners because they ALL have a smell. This smells like fake tanner. BUT it's really really really minor and probably the least smelling tanner I've ever used. So that's awesome. Waterproof-ness - It hasn't been coming off when I workout or when I take showers. Overall, I think it would probably last about 1.5 weeks if you're ok with a nice fade (which this TOTALLY fades nicely). If you want to keep it up, I think applying it once a week is just about perfect. I haven't had ANY problems with it coming off on my white sheets either, which is nice. During the initial application, I did wear a robe around the house and that did get some tanner on it, but I expected that because it wasn't totally absorbed yet. So I guess I should say that for a couple of hours after you first put it on, it could potentially get on clothes/towels/robes, but I don't think this makes the product bad. Also, buy one of those weird self tanner gloves because I wish I'd had now. Another note for you sensitive skinned gingers, I see a lot of people who love the jergens natural glow, and it is cheaper, but you have to apply it way more often for the effects. My skin just can't handle that. It's super sensitive to everything I put on my skin, especially lotion. I totally break out if I put it on my face on a regular basis so I wanted something that was much more "once and done for a week" kind of product instead of a "every couple of days" kind of product. To be 100% fair though, my skin on my face does not LOVE this stuff, but it kind of gets a little red then settles back down in a couple of hours. But it doesn't make me break out or get hives. I've found that lowering the AC in the house or sitting in front of a fan helped with that reaction though. To all my ginger friends out there, you are the only ones who understand that I had to walk through all of this stuff because these are real issues for us (and so many of us are looking for self tanners without any ginger friend resources to go off of). I promise, this is the self tanner you've been looking for.

Nothing special
This has the same horrible smell that any other self tanner has. Almost immediately. In the tube smells great, the second you out it on, tanner smell. Also, no matter how long you wait for it to dry, you still feel sticky and it does comes off on clothes and sheets. You do get an okay tan but this isn’t as good as the reviews say (at least to me). It’s as good as any other self tanner, nothing special.

Did something change?
Edit 1 year later, May 2025: I DO NOT RECOMMEND. I can't leave my glowing review up in good conscience. I am not sure if the formula changed, but my results began to differ drastically over the course of last summer 2024. I was just too lazy to update this review. I loved the first and second bottles of this. By the third, which seemed identical to the others except for minor packaging changes, hit differently. Holy splotchiness. No matter what I did, I could not get this to look good on my legs and feet. I'm talking vitaligo level splotchy. I made no changes to my skincare routine otherwise, and no changes to my application method. I gave up after using up the bottle and put the auto-shipment in a drawer for another time. I just pulled it out and decided to give it one more go as I ramp up for tanning season and... splotchy city. It's SO bad. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend this product as it simply will not go on evenly, no matter how much effort one puts into it. Fail. Review from April 2024: Okay, first off, I almost never write reviews. Second, I have been an avid self-tanner user for the last 12+ years (both at home and professional spray tans) and have tried countless brands over the years. I heard about Beauty By Earth years ago and thought it was an overhyped affiliate-dominated too-good-to-be-true product, so I didn't try it. Over the years, it kept popping up as I searched for new products to try. In the last three years, I have switched almost all of my beauty products to clean products and regularly use the EWG's site to determine a product's efficacy. I knew that this product has almost no potentially hazardous ingredients and is rated a stellar 1 by EWG. Yet I couldn't believe that a product could be both CLEAN and EFFECTIVE. I am thrilled to say I've been proven wrong. I tried the first application on my legs only as my expectations could not have been lower. I was pleasantly surprised by the results, so the following day, I reapplied to my legs (for darker color) and to the rest of my body. I am beyond impressed with the results. I will say this lotion is thick—the thickest I have used. This makes it a bit challenging to apply. I use a mitt, and it is a bit of a workout to rub it all in. However, it has a pleasant coconut scent and dries fairly quickly, leaving the skin soft and hydrated. There was no color transfer and a very even application the next day. I'm shook. It should be noted that I am NOT an affiliate, but I thought it might help other skeptics to hear my feedback. For reference, I avoid the sun, so my skin is quite light with yellow undertones, but I do tan if I spend time in the sun despite my Northern European heritage. I used the medium-dark color and it looks natural on me and isn't too dark. If you want a super dark tan, apply another coat the next day (the areas I doubled up on look so good and have zero blotchiness). Happy tanning!!
