Just want to check - it says the colour is green. Picture looks like the bottle is green and the cover Grey. Is that right?

Yes, the bottle itself is a transparent green and the cover a light grey, just like the picture.

Does this hot water bottle have the British Standards 1970 marks for safety?

Embossed on the neck reads BS19702012 so it meets the standards. Not sure how it's not the best. Tells you not to use boiling water. It seems very thin so I wouldn't trust boiling water.

Does it smell of anything when hot?

No it’s lovely and can’t say smells of anything. The cover is soft and cosy too.

Can you genuinely not fill this with water from a kettle?

I think they put this in as a safety measure. Yes I fill mine from the kettle but leave the water about a minute to cool so it doesn't splatter on filling. If your bottle bursts you could be badly scalded. Look at date on any bottles you buy. The flower on the top of the bottle has the year number in. Some I have purchased from Amazon are already out of date. A hot water bottle should not be used after 2yrs after the manufacturer date.
