Interesting and fun
Have not seen water-soluble chalk pastels before. These are interesting and fun. Great if you want to blend/highlight certain areas of your art work, or just turn a sketch into a watercolor. However, a better quality of paper is a must. Range of colors are excellent, intense pigmentation, price seems fair as could not find a comparison. Would buy again.

Some dust, and somewhat responsive to water--
I agree with most of the reviewers that the color collection is very nice, like many top brands, the pastels are on the hard side of soft pastels, and dust rather easily. This does allow for slim lines and maybe more control for beginners like me. And I'm always thrilled with cardboard or other non-plastic packaging, and the fact that this box fits a small space because the two trays of pastels are stacked vertically--so, very clever, green and thoughtful, thank you, Charvin. The photo shows a bit of play with wet color on mid-quality watercolor paper.

Beautiful pastels
The pastels are packaged carefully and arrived completely undamaged. While I haven’t used them yet I tested one of the sticks and it blends easily. I look forward to using them!

A Keeper after All
When I saw this set of water-soluble pastel sticks, I immediately placed an order. While waiting, I painted with my soft pastels for two whole days, but the results were so disappointing, I threw away the paintings and tried to cancel my order for the set of Charvin. Too late! The order was ready to be shipped. When it arrived today, the packaging impressed me, so I pulled out two color sticks and lightly rubbed them across some watercolor paper to see how they'd behave. Good result! Then I dampened a brush and ran it across the colors. Nice! Very nice. So I'm giving up soft pastels but keeping these hard ones - less messy and so versatile.
