Story of the World, Vol. 1 Test and Answer Key: History for the Classical Child: Ancient Times

I have used SOTW series for many many years in my homeschool. I’ve had the activity books, and my kids have enjoyed them.This is the first time I have bought the test booklets and so half they are offering this. I flipped through it and I think it will be just what I need for this year.

Story of the world Volume 1:I have 4th and 5th grade girls who are using this so I will answer from that point of view. A lot of ancient history is not going to be retained at this age, however impressions of major figures and the geography tends to stick. My daughters probably wont be able to tell you what year a king reigned after this but they can tell you all about ancient Egypt and China. We add books from the library to each chapter and I look up videos, and magazines on the topic. Overall I believe if your willing to take that approach with this book then your child will get much more of an history of the time then any textbook is going to give. Children tend to remember stories and fables and this book has them.The Test and Answer Book:The questions are well thought out and make the child think, but are not complicated. The questions are completely from the chapter tested on and not prior chapters. I do think that the full 16-20 questions per chapter may be a lot considering some of the chapters the tests cover are not very long. We do use the entire test. We do not test after each chapter typically we test after a subject transitions.Each Chapter has its own test which includes:Approx 4-5 Fill in the blank questions8-10 Multiple choice questionsand 4-7 True/False questionsEasy to use and copy a great compliment to: Story of the World, Volume 1:Ancient Times if you are looking to save a few dollars you could use the Review Questions found in the Activity Book instead of having a traditional test after each chapter. The description given of the product when I purchased it and my use of the Test and Answer Key have been consistent with what I expected to receive.

Simple and easy to use and copy a great compliment to: Story of the World, Volume 1: Ancient Times. It is a good review of each of the chapters. Highly recommend.

My daughter is in 3rd grade and she very much enjoys this history book. We usually read it together but she goes back over it herself when she looks for answers to the questions in the student activity book and has no problems. The chapters are short and to the point so it doesn't bog down young readers with huge chunks to read at one time. Again- get the student activity book to go with this. All the instructions of daily work, activities, chapter questions, removable workbook pages with maps and such, and other educational additions are found there. If your doing this curriculum with a group - one person (the teacher) can get the activity book and then buy just the workbook pages separately for each child.

Maybe a little on the simple side but it cuts down on the work I need to do. If you want in depth tests, maybe not what you are looking for but for a quick check of what was covered in the chapters and to get kids used to taking a test these are great. They expose them to fill in the blank, multiple choice and true or false.

This is an awesome curriculum for history. Many kids get bored with the pages and pages of reading or listening to the teacher drone on and on. The Story of the world has an option to purchase CD you can listen along to as you read. This is helpful for slow readers or kids with other disabilities such as ADHD. The reading portion is not long, once your kid has read you go over a few review questions together. There is a map activity you can do to help kids who are visual learners to attach some form of reference. Also, for older kids they recommend some further reading on the subject and there are hands on art crafts or cooking or such to make the learning fun and a little more hands on.

I have been very impressed with the Story of the World, Vol. 1. The history and moral lessons my daughter has learned from the beginning of this volume, has had her mind asking the what if’s and thinking outside the box. Which in turn has had me thinking as well. This has been a learning experience for the both of us and refreshed history for myself too. I would recommend this to any parent whether homeschooling or not.

São 2 páginas de perguntas de múltiplas escolha, de completar, e V/F para cada capítulo do livro. Faço as questões não como avaliação, mas para revisão do conteúdo estudado, e ajuda demais! Está em inglês, mas faço a tradução simultânea das questões pra ela, e ela preenche as respostas em português.

This book is a good overview of some major events and time periods in history however it does not go into enough detail to really be anything other than a launchpad into a better book. 3 stars for what it is however as a standalone it offers mixed value.

Perfect for testing my daughter's absorption of the facts presented in 'The Story of the World' reading.
