Love it
I started researching Norse mythology and when I saw this book, I knew I had to have it. I love the Greek myth version from this author and when I tell you, this was the perfect addition to my collection it was.

Still as good as when I was a kid
After reading a kid's book to the wee ones using the Norse characters, I figured it would be good for my sanity if they had the original sources to reference instead of a kid's school adventure novel. Given its impact on my childhood love of myth, there was a clear book to turn to.The D'Aulaires were a dear part of my childhood, both this book and the associated Greek myths, and it's looking like the same on my kids. The stories are very well done, telling the classic mythical tales in a way that is true to the tradition, but also not overly explicit. (Important in some of these stories. Woof, nordic people.) I'm amazed at how much content is in the book, covering the meaty parts of the Eddas. Think Niel Gaiman's book - not authoritative, but great storytelling. The 8 year old loves it, he's been reading it to the 6 and 4 year old, and now I have to explain to my church why my 4 yo son is running around on Sleipnir hitting people with Mjolner. Fun times.

Highly highly recommend to anyone who likes stories.
As a newbie Heathen follower I have been struggling to find reliable and unbiased recourses to render the folklore and myths of the gods and people. I FOUND IT IN THESE BOOKS (also bought the copy about Norse mythology based off and following with the Poetic Edda and sagas). I love the storytelling especially since is approachable in a way that I can enjoy reading these stories with my 5 year old son without boring him to death with convoluted language styles of the translated eddas. The illustrations are nostalgic of the early to mid 1900s style but captivating and depicts the characters and events in ways that are kid approved in my opinion. Highly recommend to anyone wanting to read or understand any type of legend/myth/folklore stories that aren’t biblical or Roman Greco and that give a different look into ancient culture and the worldview from a different perspective and belief system.

Excellent Story Book!
The pictures are gorgeous and the stories are perfect for my 6 year old and me to follow along. I've found Norse myths hard to make sense of, but these are really accessible for all ages. Only complaint is paper is a little thin.

Introduction to Norse Myths
My husband and I are taking cruise in Norway to enjoy the northern lights late this fall. I bought this book as an introduction to read to my husband and daughter. The stories are charmingly told. Story by story, D’aulaires’ builds the Norse cosmos, from beginning to end. Out of all the stories, “Thor and the Joton Utgardsloki” takes the cake. It’s by far the most humorous and lighthearted story of the bunch, though “The Theft of Thor’s Hammer” takes a close second. Good introduction to Norse mythology.
