Our favorite
This is our goto guide. It's easy to use and navigate. Our favorite aspect are the neighborhood walks feature that no other guide. These walks are the first thing we do when we get into a new area.

I used this for basically everthing I did in New York and it never steered me wrong once.
This is like the tenth Lonely Planet book I've bought and I avoid the others, if I can. So, I'm a fan ... but based on trying the others.Honestly - it's hard to think of anything bad about it. If you think Yelp or social media is better because it's free, you are making a mistake. The restaurant reviews alone, pay for cost of the book. Yelp reviews can send you to some stinker restaurants but Lonely Planet never does that.More helpfully, Lonely Planet tells you what good for the money. This is more helpful. I don't care about the best restaurant or hotel. I want one that's interesting. (But, it you like the fancy, Lonely Planet will steer you there, too. )And their walking tours or borough highlight guides are really helpful. I had one day at The Met museum and used the "must see" guide. I felt like a master tourist!Lastly is the physical book - it's the right size. It fits in the small satchel I use but would fit in a medium coat pocket. And the binding never fails. Not, a criticism but the organization of the book takes a bit of learning. You'll want to spend an hour or two with it, before you leave.

Out of date and unreliable info
I purchased this book in February 2022 the day it was released. I was planning for a trip in March. I realize that businesses can close quickly and things change, but I thought that buying a brand new release that stated that all info had been updated since Covid would give me the most accurate info.Unfortunately, as I was planning my trip I began to try to verify some of the locations and info in the book. The TKTS booth at the Seaport that they highly recommend and state is open in multiple places in the book is actually closed and has been since the beginning of Covid two years ago! There is no way that was fact checked. There is also an event listed for March that is actually in November and has been in November for the past several years. Again, no way that was verified or updated for this "brand new" release. There are also several businesses that they recommended but are closed and businesses that are seasonal but not stated as such in the description. There are so many examples of sloppy effort to update this book that I reached out to the publisher. I work in publishing so I realize there is a lead time necessary for book printing, but many of these errors are years old. When I reached out to the publisher I received a response stating that facts change quickly and books print early. I would accept that answer if the errors were recent and few, but neither was the case for the vast majority of errors I found.I gave 2 stars because I did like the way the information was organized. But that's the only positive I can give. Accuracy is paramount in a travel guide. Expecting accuracy literally the week the book is released is not too much to ask in my opinion. Wasnt expecting perfection but don't state that its been updated since Covid when it clearly hasn't been.

It’s just okay at best
Preparing to take kids to NYC and bought this for fun. I’m not sure what Little Italy did to piss off Lonely planet but it’s mentioned only one time in a blurb in the whole book.
